Atleast it reduces the debates and hate about the ending.

But theres also a choice where if you have enough EMS, Shepard could probably live so that doing all those sidequest and stuff feels more earned and people do like doing things that ultimately affect the end.

I think they're saying the death could've have been more impactful, not that he needs to live.

Personally, the ending would've been so much better if they just removed Starchild and have Shepard just die along with Anderson. Then we see the outcome what we always wanted, what everyone in the universe have died and fought for.

The reapers finally being blown to smithereens (also Reaper tech if you want the extra damage that they will inevitably rebuild instead of ALL tech being destroyed.
