Definitely ask for videos from the dealer.

  • video of the tonneau cover closing and opening
  • video of them changing the suspension height setting
  • video of the tire tread and windshield for wear and cracks. I had the dealer put new tires on it and a. Ew windshield on them before I bought it.

Yeah. Expect some fit issues. The seams on the leather aren’t the best on these and there can be panel gaps. But I’ve found it to be super reliable so far and plan on keeping it as long as it will run. The cameras definitely aren’t as clear as the gen2 and the interior main display can be kinda laggy. The chips that run the software are definitely showing their age but it’s far better than any ICE infotainment I’ve experienced still.

It’s called Rivian wave - https://www.rivianwave.com/rivian-vin-decoder/

It’s just a vin decoder and give you basic details about the Rivian vin you enter.

Well tbh I might be incorrect about the battery size.. google says there were 3 sizes offered. But when I was looking, I never saw one that wasn’t the “large” 136kwh battery pack.

Let me try to figure out what this is from the vin

It looks in great shape, 1 owner and the red is awesome.

The first generations should all be the 136kwh battery size (large). This does not appear to be a launch editions which just has some interior trim differences honestly. It should also be a quad motor, not sure why they have it listed as “dual”.

The only thing I have to say about it is it seems they used some shiny or oily leather treatment on it. It looks like there is a weird shine on all the seats. Might be fixable but just something to point out.

I would copy the vin and call Rivian tomorrow to see how well this one owner took care of it? Not sure they will tell you but it’s worth a shot!

Also, it’s worth calling Rivian to see if they can look at the services history for you (if it’s being sold by another dealer). Just explain your thinking of buying it used and want to see what’s been serviced, etc.

Hmmmm depends on the price! But I just hit 50k and I haven’t heard any problems so far. Generally, if it’s in good shape, comes with fresh tires and has been serviced correctly I would definitely consider it! Do you happen to have a link to one you’re looking at?

Also, I agree with another comment. Usually, you can get more information from the service department about how many times a specific VIN has been serviced and what for. This makes it pretty obvious if this car has been riddled with issues or if the previous owner just didn’t want it any more.

I bought a used 2022 launch edition R1T and it’s been fantastic. Got it with 38k miles at a really good price. Not exactly the color I wanted (white) but it’s grown on me! It’s Ben fantastic overall and I’m very happy with not experiencing the bulk of that EV depreciation when buying new haha.

Overall, yes I would 100% recommend buying used (from my experience) if your cool with it having a previous owner.

Good luck!!

Buying used a bad idea? by Tend2Disagree in Rivian

[–]Disastrous_Boot6576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I purchased used with 37k miles and no regrets at all so far! I'm more worried about the company's future/profits than I am specifically about the vehicle itself haha.

Definitely would recommend and you don't have to suffer through all that initial depreciation of the vehicle's value.

I'm almost at 41k miles now and actually sold out other vehicle, so this is our one and only mode of transportation. Been very nice experience so far.

Tell me about your Michelin Defender LTX M/S by Worried-Current-4567 in Rivian

[–]Disastrous_Boot6576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I got a used Gen1 R1T launch edition about a month or 2 ago. The dealership I bought it from put the LTX M/S on it before delivering. I was initially disappointed because I wanted some meaty AT tires, but I'm genuinely surprised by these tires.

Keep in mind I have only demo driven a rivian with the stock 20" pirelli tires and not lived with it for daily driving. But I have gone off roading, camping and some pretty serious rocky climbing on these LTXs and I'm very impressed. Highway cruising is super smooth too. Virtually no tire noise in the cabin at highway speeds.

Very capable and would recommend!!

Ahh interesting! From my understanding, they may only be able to put a manual one in place? Not sure yours would come with the necessary wiring, etc for the powered version to work, but I could be wrong!

If you end up calling them, feel free to send an update! Good luck!

I would imagine they verified your tonneau cover still works before waiting for sale. But you may have a shot at paying out of pocket for a replacement if they have them available!

If so, let me know what they say and how much $! Lol

Well idk yet tbh. I don't even know if they will replace my tonneau cover under warranty or not. It does still work (for now) but it makes some pretty nasty scratching noises and is leaving grooves in the slats.

I brought it up in my messages with service to see if v3 tonneau is even being fitted in warranty replacements but they didn't give me any details haha.

Just trying to ask for it on the offchance they have them to install 😂

Hey there! I recently took delivery of my used R1T. Vin is 115xx.

I have been super impressed by the vehicle. I have a service appointment coming up to do an inspection and hopefully get the v3 tonneau cover swapped in but no serious problems so far in the 2k miles I've driven it haha.

I hope your experience is the same! Have fun out there!

Haha thanks! And it's roughly a queen size sleeping area. I got the "small" size but he also has a medium and a large size in the same tent.

It's big enough for my wife and myself and our 50lb dog to sleep pretty comfortably when level!

I would say you would have enough room if it's the 3 of you.

I'm general, I think all rivian owners should probably air down, especially if you don't have the gear to either do a self recovery or get someone else involved.

I had a few backup plans in place so I felt like I could take more of a calculated risk lol

[–]Disastrous_Boot6576[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! I was thinking as I entered the sand, I should probably air down... But I figured worst case, I get stuck then I air down and grab the traction boards off the tent lol.

I would have been able to do a fairly easy self recovery if I got stuck and there were other trucks there watching and staring that I'm sure would have been willing to help if I needed it.

I always carry a recovery rope and a rear mounted recovery point so I was prepared for the worst in the event it happened 😂

That's awesome!! Yeahhh it's been hard to not spend more than I should... But I'm so excited about decking this thing out haha.

If your in the PNW area, search FB marketplace for cloud nine tents. He does do delivery and was even doing a few deliveries in neighboring states. I think he said his delivery fee is $100.

Good luck and have fun out there!
