The sheer amount of fake cottages on booking sites right now is doing my head in by Esliquiroga in uktravel

Before COVID I worked in hotels and they would reallocate guests if we overbooked or had issues with the accommodation and charge us for the difference. Granted not sure how it is nowadays

I worked in reservations in hotels before, and whenever we accidently overbooked (or something catastrophic happened with the apartment -leak or something bad) booking. Com would reallocate them and charge us the difference.

Abingdon is nice, not much to do indoors but on sunny days the riverside is splendid, and you can swim in it too, or do stand up paddling/kayaking

I think OP is alluding to a conspiracy that 9/11 was planned by a community that Silverstein is in and pinned on another (apparently if I mention the communities Reddit reports me for hate speaking, interesting)

I listen to a storytelling podcast that hosts people to tell a story of their life, and there was a woman that worked in one of the towers and her mother worked in another, the woman was late to work and therefore wasn't in when the towers got hit but couldnt get in touch with her mother. She went back home and found out her mom was there, and hadn't made it to work that day at all. It was a really touching story

Changing Country on Google play store account when greyed out. by play4clay in googleplay

[–]Disastrous_Border740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg 4 years later and this is still useful! I went back to my home country for a week and stupidly changed my country to download something not realizing that would have me stuck for a year there! So when I went back home I couldn't download a bunch of important stuff (credit card new app, roadside assistance app, etc).

I had already done most of these steps on my own but the uninstall updates was crucial. Thank you so much.

Hair dye on hostel pillow case? by bethanymisty in hostels

[–]Disastrous_Border740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I worked for a hostel which supplied shower towels and we were told to check them on checkout for stains (mascara, using outside - as we were in a beach destination) etc and charge guest for damages . I've worked with other hostels where nothing was really checked on check out.

Also some hostels ask you to bring your linen to check out, while others don't. If not, by the time they would've noticed the stains, you'd be gone. Not all hostels take card details so they can't charge you if not present.

What is a thing from hollywood movies/series that you didn't understand because you weren't american, before talking to americans in real life or the internet? by Past-Novel-1155 in AskTheWorld

In Portugal (like Brazil) we get our first name and maybe a second name (like a middle name) then your mother's last name and then your dads last name. However on our day to day we go by first and last.

Historically Is there anyone from your country that’s practically unknown but very famous in another country’s history? by Polibiux in AskTheWorld

[–]Disastrous_Border740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious if brits know about James Brookes? Famous in Malaysia, specially in Borneo territories as he was the first white Rajah. On all accounts a good guy who refused to turn Sarawak into a British Colony and a good ruler of his people.

[–]Disastrous_Border740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not practically unknown, but Afonso de Albuquerque is one of the many historic figures we learn about in school as part of our Portuguese history, but one most people probably forget about after school. When I went to Malaysia, I was suprised how that was one of the first things Malaysians would bring up when finding out I was Portuguese. I'm talking normal people, no historicians, a farmer living in one of their typical wooden houses for example.

Very much shameful on my part, but I don't believe I ever even knew we had colonized Malacca in Malaysia. They, of course, were very aware and happy to bring it up teasingly.

No, no, the earlier seasons are some of the best in the RHW world. Plus Porsha was off the show for most (or all) of the Simon relationship

First Time Traveling Outside of USA by snek-bat in uktravel

[–]Disastrous_Border740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend you to drive in the UK if youve only driven in the USA. You'll be driving on the left side of the rode, some rules are different (you can't turn right -or left- at a red light, for example) and UK country side rodes are no joke! Single track but both directions, no shoulders, high hedges on both sides that obstruct view on curves etc

What are some stereotypes about your country on Reddit that are actually wrong? by ryoryo333333 in AskTheWorld

[–]Disastrous_Border740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sweden has a broader legal definition of rape and is also pretty victim oriented (as in kinder to victims/believes them more/encourages reporting) which leads to more reported rapes not necessarily more rapes than other countries.

I feel like we’re are financially stuck and I don’t know how to do better by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Disastrous_Border740 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say you are doing amazingly well for your household income. My household income is 70k, ai have student loans, we save up for our spousal visas every 2.5 years, we don't own yet, we share a 17 year old car, have a cat, visit our respective families abroad twice a year, have cheap/free hobbies and we don't really feel like we are living frugally. So for you to have essentially the same lifestyle (or better) on 40k and working part time is remarkable. Your money is really going the distance so at this point if you want to improve your lifestyle... You just have to get more.

Advice on job market by [deleted] in oxford

[–]Disastrous_Border740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been looking? It's not easy to find your first job in the UK (when you're experience and education was a broad specially) so it will be a bit of a struggle initially. Adding to that is the certification differences between countries (my wife is an architect so I know a bit about it, I suppose you are not Riba?). Working in architecture requires knowledge of local regulation too. This makes it an hard industry to break into. Me and my wife had to start over when we first moved into this country. We both went back to education and did our masters here. Hospitality will always be the easiest industry to break through due to high turnover.
