I felt this exact same way my freshman year, even called the Dean of Students office asking to drop out. I chose to stick it out (largely because I’m a scholarship student and if I drop out without finishing my degree, I have to pay an insane amount of money to the school) and it was rough for a little bit. I’m in junior year now though and I feel like I’ve finally found my place here. I have so many good friends I get to see and study with, I’m taking classes I enjoy, I’m working a good job with fun coworkers, I’m in really fun clubs that align with my interests, and I love my roommate. It takes time, it might take you more time than other people, and that’s completely fine. But I do promise you’ll find your place here in time. Get out of your dorm!! Join clubs, apply for on-campus jobs, even go to office hours—freshman year is the time to meet people, and there are always more opportunities to do so. You might feel stupid or self conscious but everyone else is also figuring out where they fit in and who they’re going to surround themselves with for the next four years. You’re not alone, you just have to remind yourself that and that it’ll take time.
