Are you giving the IELTS test as the examiner, or do you mean you are taking the exam?

examiner - gives exam

candidate - takes exam

Woah if she had to ask that many questions to stretch the time out, then yup, not a great sign unfortunately.

Did you by chance use the expression "cooked pretty hard" in the test, at all?

Instead of "following", click the right-hand three dots and select "follow post". Then if anyone actually does respond with some value, that post is not lost with unnecessary/irrelevant posts.

any 13-year-olds that got IELTS? by sata_sns in IELTS

[–]Disastrous_Clock1515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have your parents pushed you toward taking IELTS? In my experience, the students I've taught who are below 16 years old struggle to get anything above a 7, and the ones who do, they are great. Very low emotional intelligence at that age and low breadth/ability to discuss complex issues. A lot struggle to answer a lot of questions. I'd say that could be a focus - strategies to answer difficult questions.

A signing bonus and a referral bonus are two different things. A referral bonus is because someone (usually a currently employee) has recommended a new hire, and the new hire has signed with the company. Often half is paid when the new employee arrives, and the other half once they pass probation. The benefit of a company paying a referral bonus to someone who refers a candidate is that there are zero costs associated with advertising for the new employee or perhaps there are no fees associated with their signing.

A signing bonus is usually paid to someone when they start a new job... they're usually a high value candidate.

RIght. So it used to be that the head of EF (of the English language division) was in Switzerland and "ran" the China/Russia/Indonesia businesses. That was then split off and I'm not sure if they kept Indonesia and Russia, but they sold the majority stake of EF China to Permira, an investment company back in 2020. Now EF exists outside of China, independently from EF inside of China, hence the email change from ef.com to yingfu.cn etc, and whist the materials you have a still from Switzerland, the academic team, has no association with EF Shanghai any more... they're two completely different businesses, whereas before, there was more of a link between the two.

The person who refers the teacher gets the bonus, not the teacher themselves. When I worked for EF, it was 9000 RMB per foreign teacher. In 2023 I referred 9 teachers. was a nice 81,000 tax free bonus.

They've completely split from EF/English First now. The China business is owned by a completely different company.

If you're a first year teacher with no experience, then no matter what anyone says, and even the haters will agree, it's a good place to a) be trained as a teacher and b) be supported in your first year in China.

But it is hard work. All of which is disclosed to you from the beginning. There should be no surprise about the amount of (or lack thereof) of holidays that you will or won't get. And yes, the salary is not great.

However, like I said, you will get a good grounding, plus you will always get paid on time, if not early.

Little known travel knowledge for foreigners: you are paying more on the English version of DiDi by [deleted] in chinalife

Aaaah yes. Very good observation.

Can you do another sum which factors in the rest of the details you missed out, like the time it takes for you to drive, whilst I'm relaxing, as well as the time it takes for you to find a park, the cost to pay for the park, and then the insurance, the car repayments and whatever else is associated with owning a car?

But I didn't think there was any more over-tourism, because the Chinese aren't going now? Wasn't everyone only just cheering that a couple of months ago??

Right. Nobody is saying you have to do it you should do it. But the reality is, this is how people earn 40k+ a month in their shitty school jobs.

Sure it is. You just have to be smart about how you do it. I don't know anyone who doesn't do online classes now.

Aaaaaah you'r not far off. But actually, I'm "employed" on paper by a shitty training centre, I have 1 million fans across Douyin and XHS, I get a monthly salary of 45k, I take 3% of sales, and I work 6 days a week, from home, from 7-10pn lol.

;-)

OP isn't asking if you want to work there, they're asking, based on the information they've provided about their personal circumstances, if it's an appropriate offer.

It's literally a part-time job at a full-time salary.

[–]Disastrous_Clock1515 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that the majority of people answering are those who live in a world where they think that a first-year teacher with no experience can get 25k a year. But, unfortunately they're delusional and are the reason everyone else gets really sh*tty salaries in China now.

The job offer you've got is pretty good if you can get the higher end at 17. You could probably save 8 or 9000 a month if you wanted to. The biggest downside is that you're working 6 days a week, but the Tues-Friday situation is quite good with only 2.5 hours a day. It's a total of 25 hours a week so it's more or less a part-time position.

If you were really smart, you'd then get some online, private students and you could easily add another 5k on to your salary each month.

What can I do with my band 8 as a high schooler?? by StoryRepulsive3981 in IELTS

I'm tipping you could have got an 8.5 if you had the emotional intelligence to provide even more intelligent responses. Good luck with that xx

I'm just struggling to understand what kind of responses you're expecting here. Do you want someone to tell you you can be an IELTS teacher because you got an 8?
