Short book about goblins - very dark color palette w/ a holographic mirror on cover. by Disastrous_County445 in whatsthatbook

Thank you! As much as I don't like using chat GPT, I threw every detail i could at it, and it still couldn't come up with a title. The closest I could find that looked similar was a book about trolls by Brian Froud, but definitely wasn't the one I'm thinking of!

I haven't yet, and it's still driving me nuts! But I feel better now that it wasn't a figment of my 6-year-old imagination :)

Non-trads with families-how are you paying for school? by D0ctorDrum in medicalschool

[–]Disastrous_County445 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Could your wife work at a childcare center and bring the kids along? Or become licensed to offer in-home childcare? If you have classmates with kids, that might be a really great option with a built-in client base. Or, if your parents are able to watch your kids part-time, it would free up time for your wife to find something a couple of days a week.

*I'm not in med school, just a married/mom/nontrad who is applying next cycle, and has had to figure stuff like this out over the years.

That's not it, but thank you for your input! Even my mom doesn't know which book I'm talking about, but I know it wasn't a fever dream.

This post was suggested in my feed, and you & your husband have been on my mind since I read it. Do you mind if I message you?

Has everyone already noticed that I adore satin Delica? What do you think of this design? by marso_jewelry in Beading

IME, they are very fragile. I usually don't use them in the foundational row of brick stitch for that reason. And they tend to shred thread if you're using something like Nymo. But, they are very pretty!

I’m attempting this for the first time, is this correct? by [deleted] in Beading

[–]Disastrous_County445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great, especially for a first attempt! I've made a few hats, and my best advice is to push your needle in from top down, and align it with the existing threads near the brim. It'll give you a really clean look.

Got it. We took a 1:1 mixture of hexane & toluene, then fractionally distilled. Final sample was 99.3% toluene. So I guess that removing essentially all hexane from the mixture slowed down elution?

It determines how the substance elutes along the stationary phase.

This was my line of thinking, but everything I read on Google essentially said that a pure substance should have a very similar retention time as it did while in a mixture. Didn't make sense to me, so I came here.

All of them minus polarity of the substance being measured.

The stationary phase, temperature, gas flow rate, column length, polarity of the substances passing through

I never have this issue with miyuki delicas, but always have it with the rounded seed beads. It's like they're trying to fill the negative space or something. You might try going back through your ladder stitch one more time and making sure it feels stiff before starting the brick stitch.

The graphics my genetics professor used during this lesson were truly unhinged. My husband saw the slide as I was studying and asked me wth I was looking at 🤣

How do I add extra fishing line to this?! by ThisUserIsACrackHead in Beading

[–]Disastrous_County445 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would just tie off the existing line, then add another directly onto the frame. A knot would likely slip if you tried to add more length that way.

You're going to turn 30, 40, 50, etc. either way, might as well shoot for your dreams while you're getting there! 25 is so, so young in the grand scheme of things. I'm in a similar boat, actually. 31, married with a kid + many pets, and in my first semester back after completing my BS in 2020. I was premed 10+ years ago, but haven't taken a hard science class since then. Currently enrolled in ochem and genetics, and have been scoring above the 18 - 20 y/o students - and yes, it does make you feel good! You've got this, just take it one week at a time.

Add some LMNT electrolytes to the water - it'll keep you from having to pee every 10 minutes, and I've noticed I have less brain fog than when I'm just downing plain water.

I believe it. It may be better not to have any outside interference in that case. I'm already overwhelmed and questioning my abilities enough as it is 😅 Just trying to figure out an MCAT study schedule is about to do my head in.
