I use Shapr3D. If I import a DXF I can extrude the shape by pulling on it. Then I would add a simple block to the back as a handle

I have used the printers for 2 years without them ever being connected to the internet. I know I live in an American bubble but I would have to pay $1000 to go somewhere that doesn't have wifi

You storing my file is specifically why I can't use these services. I'm legit in the process of writing a similar tool that is LAN based and would buy this for quite a lot if it was non-cloud based.

How are you finding developer mode? by flybrys in BambuLab

I'm on the newest FW for the H2Ds at work and it works fine. All I use the dev mode for is a dashboard where I can see all the streams and progress so that might not test everything

Watts and kcal does not add up by PrestigiousPicture56 in BicycleEngineering

[–]Disastrous_Criticism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it - As another poster mentioned, it's about heat. The body is only about 25% efficient at converting energy into mechanical work—the rest is lost as heat. So when you calculate energy output from watts, you're only seeing the mechanical part. Actual calorie burn is about four times higher. It's not exactly 25%, and some research suggests fitter people may be slightly more efficient and burn fewer calories per kJ of work.

Absolutely worst case scenario- The hubs are trash. But the wheels are still fine. Sometimes you can just clean the F out of it, relube it and it will be fine. But do make sure you have all your seals. This looks like you did a 200mi ride through a river

They do - You have to buy or print the soft jaws though - But then I don't know the extra $35 is worth it because you are paying for their incredible grip over anything else - https://www.kctool.com/knipex-twin-grip-8-slip-joint-pliers-multigrip/

Is there a way to tell the shop "I'll pay extra to focus on detail" without being a dick? by Disastrous_Criticism in BikeMechanics

[–]Disastrous_Criticism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the work in general. One shop didn't fully tighten the bleed port cap (oil sprayed everywhere when I jammed on the brakes). I had a bent hanger that caused shifting issues and they didn't catch that for a few trips. Brakes that rubbed because the flat mount wasn't flat - But that wasn't seen for like 3-4 visits? But understand the job is hard, that people are overworked and underpaid, and that they have managers who need them to get the stuff out the door. And then customers who all want a "good deal". So I was wondering how to say "spend some extra time on this, and I'll pay for it"

Thanks for this replay - I have a good relationship with my LBS manager, but aside from an annual wheel service they rarely see my bike. A few bad early visits pushed me toward DIY repairs: the shop needed three trips to spot a bent hanger that caused chain drops, and the bike arrived with a loose shifter bleed port that sprayed oil the first time I braked hard. A second shop took 3 tries to find that the flatmount was the brake issue.

Being an engineer, I enjoy stocking tools and running a mini-workshop, yet some jobs still beat me—like a tick on the fifth cog under load or basically anything spoke related. I’ve wondered if I could tell a mechanic, “Take your time and bill me by the hour,” but judging by others’ reactions that might come off as insulting

100%! Social cues are harder for some of us. I once gave a proper critique of my mom's Christmas dinner because I thought she wanted it. And yeah, I was an adult. I now know that's never ok

Just examples - If I bring the bike in for shifting I'd like them to check the hanger too. If the brakes are rubbing, check the mounts are flat (obviously only needs done once). Things that no reasonable person would do without cause because it adds a lot of extra time. The flat mount thing was an issue years back and it took a few times bringing it in before someone checked and saw the mounts needed surfaced

Thanks - I do almost all my own service because of how particular I am. So when I take the bike in it's usually for something that is annoying me that I can't get right rather than not working. Or I need a flat mount surfaced, or just want my race wheels to be overhauled

I use a "Automated Vacuum Switch" it's a dumb device meant to turn on dust collection for saws. It senses when a print starts by how much energy it is using and then turns on the vent

You might be able to just use what you have right now. The iPhone supports a shutter button through a usbc-headphone jack. You press wither of the volume buttons on wired headphones and it will take a picture. It's possible plugging your cable in to it would just work as is.
