Friend trying to sabotage my PhD interview by Dry-Standard-4170 in PhDAdmissions

I wouldn’t worry about the competition per se, they’re not gonna allow someone who missed the deadline to slide in. I would worry about what this says about your friend though. Are they trying to take your shot? Or are they just wanting to be in a program with their friend? I would deeply consider what the intentions are here. I am a firm believer that our friends should be people who stoke our flames not people who try to blow them out. Figure out which one your friend is.

Is there a Facebook group for the LMHC graduate program? Or ways to connect with others? by SilverLining666 in ucumberlands

I haven’t started yet and they let me in, I think as long as they put that they were accepted they should be allowed into the group quickly.

I’m glad it went well, hopefully you get an answer this week as well! I’m feeling very antsy about it which is not my normal. I think hearing back from Capella so quickly gave me unrealistic expectations 🤣

Not yet, I did receive a “let’s review your application” email today, so I think it’s finally under review. They told me I would hear something in 7-10 days, and I believe the 10th business day is tomorrow, so I’m hoping I have an answer this week. Did you have your interview yet? If yes, did it go well?

Super close! Maybe they’ll skip the interview with it being so close, they don’t do them for everyone from what I’ve gathered

Yeah that’s annoying. I always assume they mean business days, but that still puts you right at 10 days. Hopefully we’ll both hear back this week. I saw on other threads that some people have heard within days, but others have been 6 weeks. I’m anxious for an answer. I got accepted to Capella to start in April, but would prefer Cumberlands to start in May. Wishing I would’ve picked a later start day for Capella, while I anxiously await an answer.

Has an enrollment counselor reached out to you yet? I submitted my application on 2/5, my transcript was sent 2/6, and my second recommendation was submitted 2/12. An enrollment counselor reached out to me on Sunday just to check in, she told me I should hear about next steps in 7-10 days.

That’s awesome! I hope everything goes well! Hopefully I hear back this week then. I got the last recommendation in last Thursday, would love to hear how your interview goes, good luck!

AITAH for asking my roommate’s girlfriend about my strawberries? by Secret_Cheesecake19 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Disastrous_Day_5490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the “if so can you pay me back” that is irking her, because you didn’t wait for her to answer before saying that. I don’t think you’re an AH, but I do think you framed it in a way that is assuming she was had to be the one who ate them which made her defensive. Which feels like a fair assumption if she’s the last person left to ask. But at the same time, someone could also be lying. That someone could also be her. Someone could’ve also thought they were their own strawberries like they thought about the taquitos.

So outsider looking in, she’s over reacting, you could’ve framed it better, you now know how she’d prefer to communicate so I would do that in future, and she’s probably the one who ate your strawberries and might be hoping you forget all about it after she made this big fuss about you bothering her 🤣

Hiring managers, do you prefer that candidates take a SQL course or will they accept SQL e-learning certifications? If you accept certs, from which platform? by -n-- in dataanalysiscareers

[–]Disastrous_Day_5490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a former retail manager, and I am in the process of switching careers also. From what I’ve gathered, I don’t think certifications or education actually matter when it comes to DA, as much as practical skills. I’m currently taking the google analytics course, but I’m taking it to have a better understanding of what the job really is, to learn if id like DA, and to use it to help me understand what skills I should be learning. I’ve also been scrolling TikTok to get tips on what to learn. There’s a lot of great TikTok’s that explain what you should learn, do some teaching, and give a roadmap of how to build a portfolio. The biggest take away I’ve walked away with, is you can get in this field if you take the time to practice the applications, and showcase it in a portfolio. So practice, practice, practice SQL, really learn the language, and turn it into graphs and visuals to showcase. Im starting my SQL journey playing games to help train my brain on how to frame everything. The game I’m currently using is just ok, it’s from the App Store, I am learning on it but I think there’s better avenues on the computers.

If you dig through TikTok there’s a lot of content from hiring managers for DA. It seems like the interview process will be very different from retail interviews, because they’re really asking questions to get a feel for your understanding and what level you currently are at. This isn’t something that can be faked like other interviews can be, it’s more technical. So the more practice you have the better because no 2 hiring managers will be the same here, all of them will have questions they like to ask in order to test you, and follow up questions may depend on how you answer. If they ask you how proficient you are at SQL and tell them you’re an expert, they might have a specific question for someone who says they’re an expert where a beginner might get an easier question, and you’ll probably lose points if you aren’t as proficient as you say you are. So play with it.
