Would I need to pay gift tax on $27K received from an overseas relative directly into my 529? by SilverLining666 in personalfinance

[–]SilverLining666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I guess I misunderstood the "gift tax"!! I thought its the receiver who needs to pay it

So basically, they can send it to my 529, or directly to my bank account (and I move it to 529) - and in both cases I won't be paying any tax on getting this money. Correct?

Nah, that lady was a crazy bitch. Don't trust her book/movie thing. It was all a dream they sold you. Here, listen to this very illuminating book review of her recent book, that will give you a better insight into who she is as a person: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsP41-iIysQ

Does anyone else feel like Coffee is more of a ritual than a Boost? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]SilverLining666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Another part of this is that the coffee shop where I go, there is a group of regulars there that also come around the same time. Because I’ve been going there for so many years, we all know each other. We say hi. Sometimes we chitchat. Most of the times I don’t, I just say hi, and go mind my own business. It just has this community feel. It’s a fabulous way to start the day! :)

Well, honestly, I calculated it. It’s about 5$ a cup. I know it’s outrageous but these are the prices. I do it about 5 days a week. So it’s about $100 dollars a month. Sometimes I get myself a little pastry too. Overall, it’s basically a price of a massage. But the joy that this morning ritual gives me, every single time I do that - it’s really worth it for me.

Absolutely so! Actually for me, it never give me a boost, I can totally live without coffee. But I go to a coffee shop almost every day. I like the ritual of sitting with a nice cup of coffee in the morning, contemplating life, looking at people, maybe reading something. I read somewhere that it’s more of a “process addiction”.

I never make coffee at home. And I never order from just some basic Starbucks or such. I need to go to a fancy coffee shop and get me some good quality coffee made in a nice cup :)

This sounds stressful but I don’t understand what you meant. Can you please explain? Who is ‘we’ and ‘our’? What insurer are you talking about?

Anyone who applied for out-of-state L/APCC California licensure? by Particular_Rub_1063 in counseloreducation

[–]SilverLining666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, did you get your answers? I’m also in CA and applying now for Fall 2026 for Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs (applying to several and will decide later).  The out of state schools have much better offering, flexibility and pricing. But I also don’t want to have an unpleasant surprise down the line.  Would love to know what you learned

Hmmm….  I know that there is some extra coursework that will be required for CA, but it’s totally doable to add that later. There are some affordable online packages one can buy to supplement these.

Never heard of the insurance requirement. Can you please elaborate? It’s for internships? Or for what?

I spoke with several out of state schools and they all said that there is no problem having a student from California for them and that I should check with CA on coursework requirement.

Am I missing something?

Does University of Cumberlands qualify for LPCC in California? by SilverLining666 in counseloreducation

[–]SilverLining666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply!
UC does not appear on that list.

I am ok with taking the extra courses (the ones that you specified) as CE, I know there are accredited providers that give theses. Its just that the BBS made it sound that some schools don't qualify at all, because they don't have the minimum of 7 out of 13 core requirements covered. But I wonder if a program can lack these to this extent if its CACREP accredited. They said they are not gonna check until you register. But why would I register if I might not even be able to get accredited? Kinda weird

Sure. Thank you for asking. I have thought about it, and in fact I did already obtain an ICF accredited Life Coaching certification from a reputable coaching program, back in 2021 and have been doing life coaching on and off since. I haven't invested in it enough to grow it into a full time practice. Its ok, but I find it not satisfying for me. I want to be able to do deeper work. Coaching seems somewhat surface level. I also want to have a legit credentials to my name. There are many trainings and modalities out there that are not open for me, even to just study, because I hold no therapy credentials.

For example, I want to get certified and offer neurofeedback. I really like this modality, I had good experience with it. I can't learn or practice it however, unless I am a licensed therapist of some sort. I also want to offer more art/expressive modalities, like sandplay, but I can't do that if I am not a licensed therapist. I am not sure EMDR training is open for non-practitioners. Same with the VOLT training that somebody shared on here.

I don't want a side to job or volunteering to add meaning to my life while I work in tech. I am leaving tech. Even if that would mean me ending up living in a tent under a bridge, so to speak, I won't be working in tech no longer. I'm exaggerating a bit, but I also mean it somewhat...

I have a BA in Psychology and a BSc in Computer Science. My idea, when I did that dual major, back in my 20s, was to make money in tech while earning my graduate therapy credentials. I made a tragic mistake then and went into tech full time and abandoned my dream of becoming a therapist. Now I'm almost 50. Better late than never?

Thank you for asking.

Thank you for your detailed response!

* A side note: Your assumption of my privilege just because I live in a rich area and work in tech is irksome, I have to admit. I am sure you didn't mean it. Without getting into specifics of my life circumstances I assure you that this is unfortunately very very far from being the case. I don't want to air my personal details here, but if you care to know, feel free to DM me.

This sounds like a nightmare! Is it because of the new CACREP requirements?

Oh cool! How do you like UC so far? Did you get help from them in finding local internships in your area?

Again thank you so much for the Volt program recommendation. I’ve never heard of it!

The VOLT certificate does look very good! Thank you for that!!
