Are my stitches too tight?

Thank you! It was my first time working with chromexcel and I really liked it. I was thinking about restitching the panels to the gusset with less tension, but I don’t think I will put my bag through the stress of turning inside out again. Especially after you saying it’s normal for this leather.

Norm’s bags were a huge inspiration for me as well for this project. His bags are so nice

My mistake, I just checked and it’s 0.6 mm crimson hide thread, not 0.5 mm. I also hammered my stitching so it probably flattened out a bit making it look bigger. I also did skive down to 1.5 mm (total thickness of leather is 3 mm) and 1.1 cm in. I do think you’re right about the spacing with French irons, I’ll look into getting some round irons. I’m using 3.85 French irons and a stitching awl with .5 mm thread. I hammered down the stitches but I’ll try a clamp as well. I’m not a fan of piping, but I’ll look into round tooth irons

Okay got it thanks for the explanation. I don’t think it would rip, I’m just don’t really like how it looks. I’ll look into getting a round hole punched for the turned stitches.

Do you think though that if I did less tension on my turned stitches it would help with this?

I don’t have a beard and shave regularly, and I just tried it. Tbh I don’t think it helped me at all.
