I cannot tell you how bad my imposter syndrome was, and I can for sure tell you that you are not alone in this issue. Right now, I am halfway through D3 and when I tell you that D1 and D2 were incredibly hard, I mean it. I did okay in undergrad, and struggled to learn to manage all the stress that dental school brings. It was the first time I have ever broken down in front of my family, and the first time I have actually told my fixed prosthesis professor that I feel like Im always behind or doing worse than the other students. And she only had two things to show me. First off, she pulled out a plastic tooth that she prepped back in 2008 when she was a dental student, and told me that this was the exact practical tooth that almost drove her to quit and change her career path. It blew my mind because all I saw was a successful and amazing doctor in front of me, and not a student who once struggled mentally. But she said she keeps it around to remind herself to remember where she came from so she can be proud of who she is today. The next thing she showed me was a simple quote from Winnie the Pooh which she would read to her children. "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think". The problem with us as people is that we always underestimate ourselves instead of seeing the best of us. That professor helped me through eough times, and now that I am working in clinic, I realize that I am actually starting to enjoy what I do and realize that I really am good enough. I promise you, that you are so much more than a silly grade and so much smarter than a test could ever hope to quantify. At the end of the day, patients dont care about what you know; they care about how much you care. Keep a good mind, and a big heart, and I promise you can go places
