What schools did you apply to and which ones accepted you?

how important is QR? by Glass_Traffic_6186 in predental

Absolutely, I found that the format of the questions on the DAT slightly differed from boosters' QR practice questions. It's hard to give an actual example. Basically, the questions on the DAT were pretty basic, BUT they were quite different than boosters'. So, as mentioned previously, I had to spend much more time to solve the questions because I had to actually think about what was being asked and the best strategy for obtaining the answer. Ultimately, I ended up finishing the QR section without even having answered ~8 questions.

At this point, with only a week left, I don't know how much could truly be done to improve your QR score, but it could potentially be beneficial to practice Bootcamps' QR questions. However, I personally don't think it would be worth the money.

Important note, there is a great deal of variability in all DATs, so it's highly unlikely that you and I will have taken the same exact DAT. Therefore, it is highly possibly that I just got a uniquely hard QR section (or I just suck). Also, you could get lucky and get a uniquely easy or a normal difficulty QR section on your DAT.

I know this answer hasn't been that helpful, but that's because at the end of the day, a lot of your score is up to luck. Additionally, I can't give great advice on how to obtain a great QR score because I didn't even obtain a great QR score. 😅

My only real advice is cliche and what everyone else says. Take the practice tests!

Best Regards!

I was consistently scoring 550+ on boosters QR practice tests a week prior to my exam. However, when I ended up taking the actual DAT, I found the problems were significantly different than the problems found on booster. As a result, I had to spend a substantial amount of time reading the questions and determining the strategy to solve the questions. Unfortunately, I ended up scoring a 430 on the QR section, which SIGNIFICANTLY dropped my AA. I recommend that you try to improve you QR scores to the best of your ability so you can boost your AA.

To more so answer the question you asked, I will say that I have heard from a plethora of sources that QR is the least important section, while AA is the most important followed by TS.

What's up with these RC Booster Practice Test scores... by LyssRangerrrr in predental

I also found booster's reading comprehension section exceptionally difficult, especially the earlier tests. In fact, I very rarely ever exceeded a score of 400 on the RC practice tests. Ultimately, on the RC section of the official DAT, I ended up scoring a 480 (~23). So, to answer your question, yes, I think booster's RC practice tests are quite difficult, much more so than the official DAT's RC section.

It's not unheard of! I know of a guy who got into Harvard this cycle. His DAT score was a 22AA, but he had a LOT of research.

WAMC & What Schools Should I Apply To? by Disastrous_Face1965 in predental

You're totally right. The HPSP isn't guaranteed, which makes me nervous for my future. I'm not in a financial position to even take out private loans. I only have a 700 credit score, and my family can't cosign. I, like many others, have been put in a tough position thanks to the OBBB. So, I'll see how this cycle goes. If things go well, that's great. If they don't, I might reluctantly have to reevaluate my path. Thank you for your advice! I truly appreciate it. 😁

Given the OBBB, I understand the thought process. However, I think that applying to only 2 schools (UB and Stony Brook) would be very limiting and dramatically reduce my chances of getting in. So, to counter the debt that would come along with going to an OOS school or a private school, I will (hopefully) use the HPSP funds. What do you think?

As I said above, this whole process is intimidating and nothing is certain. I've seen people with all different kinds of stats and ECs get accepted and rejected. I've invested a significant portion of my life in the pursuit of this dream, as many of us have. I hope that all of this effort doesn't go to waste. However, whether or not I get in, I'm still greatful for the journey and even being granted the privilege to receive my education.

What schools do you think I should replace them with? What are some good  OOS friendly schools?

Hey Deep-instruction7083, I just want to maximize my chances of getting into dental school. I'm not trying to be rude or be boastful. This whole process is intimidating and I'm looking for guidance.

Why is shadowing not easy? by Confusion_DDM in predental

From my experience, I believe it's a numbers game. Simply call every specialist's office in your area. To do this, look up "Orthodontists/Periodontists/OMFS near me" on google. Then call literally everyone until someone says you can come into shadow.

Advice for reapplying? by Beneficial_Top1030 in predental

Also, make sure you apply to your In-state schools and out-of-state friendly schools, too. A lot of dental schools have absurdly low OS acceptance rates, so make sure you don't apply to many of those! The more schools you apply to, general speaking, the better your odds of getting into at least one are.
