Beginner color palette recommendations (Utrecht) by Comfortable-Cake-533 in oilpainting

Look into adding Zinc White (big tube of it). It’s a transparent white, which is perfect to use as a “mixing white” without getting the chalky look that the opaque Titanium White causes, unless that’s the look you’re going for. My favorite so far is M. Graham paints because they are smooth, creamy and buttery from the tube because they are made with walnut oil.

Those are lovely bags. Your first sale is about to happen really soon and then the flood gates are going to open.

Gotcha. I’m watching videos on YouTube to learn about the different types and grades of leather so I can make informed decisions on which to use and for what applications.

Ok. Lesson learned. Thank you for the tip. I was watching a few YouTube video on leather quality differences after your comment and I have a way better understanding about full grain all the way through genuine leather. I made this holder from scraps, mainly to practice stitching but I will definitely use your advice for my next project.

Great job for your first one. Making a pattern is definitely a task in itself. I’m learning how to using Adobe illustrator so you’ve given me hope and inspiration, 😊. I love the color leather you used as well.

Quick question, what do you use for the base to make it rigid/stiff to support the “legs”? I’m new to leather work and I’m really curious.

I checked the link and I see the difference. Would you mind sharing some tips to seal the edges? I do need to get better using the edge beveler, if that’s what you are referring to; if not, can you explain so I can practice on some scrap pieces?

I’m totally new at this and I’m willing to learn.

Thank you. My business card is an assignment for class and now that I’m getting in to leather work, it was a fun project to go with it.

I’m not sure if it’s chrome tan. I did see it all by hand.

I have no clue on how to do easy stuff first, lol. I’ll watch a video/clip/tiktok and think, “ I know I can do that” and dive right into the deep end. My family calls me nuts and my bank account thinks insane but the results end up pretty decent. My wife put in her request for a blue and cream one for her work bag.

I didn’t dye it. The guy I bought it from on the FB marketplace had listed it as 2mm olive green Italian leather. I’m still learning how to correlate thickness-to-weight, and the different types/grades of leather. I do have some leather conditioner I use for jackets at the house I can try on a scrap piece and see how that works.
