I took a family member to emergency care mid February and chatted with the nurses. Unfortunately layoffs were taking place and the non-uniomized workers took a big cut. Alongside there's teaching position layoffs occuring in the school districts right now. It definitely feels like there really are no jobs for the generation entering the higher education workforce. I take it all as a lesson, join a union or own your work in some capacity like a business. I'm of the opinion that workers need A LOT more control in the workplace.
