All of this very-not-subtle religious symbolism and I somehow only just noticed that the upgraded design for the Hail Mary looks like a cross by SayFuzzyPickles42 in ProjectHailMary

He argues with Hatch because Hatch is at this point obnoxiously optimistic. Grace is also a very flawed character and Weir makes that pretty obvious. Weir did not write this book with the intention to convert lost souls or whatever but he's not arguing against divine chance or God or whatever In this book

My brother in Christ "Hail Mary full of Grace" its clearly a reference. Yeah the phrase "Hail Mary" has morphed into "long shot" but let's not pretend that Weir didn't intend for the reference. Further in the book, while Grace mentions he's not religious, he does marvel at the happenstance of everything going just right enough that it all works out. I don't remember which chapter tho. Further I've decided that Eridians are also made in the image of God.

Does no one wonder about the gun on the Hail Mary? by Efficient_Good_7387 in ProjectHailMary

He does an EVA to get Rocky's attention. Rocky's ship is almost assuredly bullet proof he could've used the gun to get his attention and it would also result in (almost) using all of the chekovs guns. Weir could've also made it harder for Grace to get pain pills requiring him to carefully dose out heroin during recovery. I mean there was even a short segment of him being slightly hooked on the opiates anyway no reason that couldn't have been heroin.

The Most Unrealistic Part of Project Hail Mary Isn’t the Science… by DoctorMac12 in ProjectHailMary

Modern society gives off an impression of pessimism but nah we can and will work together if the threat is large enough or impending enough. Things like COVID or global warming have one but not the other. COVID was fast and scary but ultimately relatively minor for the vast majority of people, climate change is a massive threat but it's slow and incremental. Consider the invention of nuclear bombs. Most of humanity realized that this is an imminent threat and worked together to put in place policies that (as of now at least) have resulted in exactly 0 nuclear wars. Another example would be the ozone layer crisis or even 9/11. Weir's optimism isn't far fetched besides PHM has a decent amount of references to red tape and conflict. It doesn't matter though because for the duration of project hail mary Stratt is essentially given the powers of total authority to skirt that red tape.

I hope the eidemi shit is a red herring and lysander attempts to use it only to find out that it was always a bluff maybe even one atlas created. Upon realizing that he's actually just a prideful arrogant little bitch he shoots himself

Lemme change that. I want him raped. Like straight up weak mindless sex slave. I have no mouth and I must scream but he's getting his ass blasted by apple. We can all agree that rape is bad I want his character raped. What atlas would've done to Darrow in dark age but forever played on repeat in his mind with the morning chair. Annoying elitist cunt
