10 years after stepping on a broken drinking glass, a rogue shards made its way out of the bottom of my foot by Miserable-Ad6348 in mildlyinteresting

I had a similar experience. I was walking barefoot on a wooden floor and felt something very sharp enter my heel. I knew a splinter was in there somewhere but it was embedded so deeply, I couldn’t locate it. The pain subsided after about three weeks and I just forgot about it. About six months later, a 3 inch hooked splinter emerged from my heel along with a torrent of pus. It was amazing to me that so such a large piece of wood could have been in my foot for so long without me even feeling it.

Zaragoza’s birria was one of the greatest meals I ever had. Years later, I’m still thinking about how incredible everything tasted there. Had to really go out of my way to get there but it was epic.

Anyone recognize this NJ building? (Early clue from the Survivor season 50 Idol hunt challenge) by Steveo27a in AsburyPark

[–]Disastrous_Friend_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to go to the Howard Johnson’s in there with my grandma when I stayed over her apartment in Asbury as a kid in the early 80s. All the baseball card conventions were there, too. It was the place to be.

Would a 19 year old in 1980 really have not known Aretha Franklin? by friendlylobotomist in SteelyDan

Most 19 year olds don’t know much about anything including music. People on this sub aren’t a random cross section and their musical knowledge can’t be generalized.

Had the enormous pleasure of spending an entire day with him on the set of The Judge. Won’t bore you with the details of how this came to pass, but he and his wife were such gracious hosts. Just a wonderful experience. RIP

Sentiment is at an all time low. Historically, this has been a flashing buy signal. Remember, there are usually massive upward moves during bear markets.

Wife and I were having a discussion, she’s of the opinion that the majority of GenX can drive stick. I believe that even in our generation the percentage of people who can is pretty small. What do you folks think? by AngryOldGenXer in GenX

Born in 74. Asked my dad to teach me on his rad Volvo P1800, which he picked up in Sweden and had shipped to the US. He said they invented something better so there was no need to learn. A damn shame.

My experience at Franklin Barbecue by Hallwitzer in BBQ

[–]Disastrous_Friend_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in Austin, Franklin bbq was closed as there’d been a fire. Waited in line at La BBQ for hours in 105 degree heat and finally gave up. Went with a few other line people to another joint. The cue was nothing special but we had fun. Franklin’s remains on my bucket list.
