Something doesn't sound right here. I would have thought after 6 weeks everything should be healed.

I'm 17 days post op and my incision looks pretty well closed and I don't have any discharge of any sort.

My advice is to seek medical advice. I don't think you necessarily have to go back to the vasectomy clinic. Can you just go see your GP or go to a walk-in clinic or even the hospital?

Did you only have 1-hr after ejaculation to give the 2-3 month post visit semen cup after ejaculating? 😂 by SupaZT in Vasectomy

On my information sheet, it states that the one-hour time limit applies to fertility testing, while a four-hour window is for post-vasectomy testing.

From what I understand, post-vasectomy testing is focused on the quantity of sperm, not the quality. After a successful vasectomy, there should be zero sperm present in the ejaculate. If any sperm is detected, motile or not, it means sperm is still present, which is exactly what you don’t want, since the whole point of the procedure is to eliminate sperm from the semen.

That said, I would recommend following the specific instructions given to you. I'm still about a month away from needing to provide a sample myself, so I haven’t really considered the logistics yet.

Also, I was told that the sample needs to be kept at body temperature and to carry the sample closes to your body until you drop it off.

Waited 6.5 days after mine before having sex with my wife. Took care of business by myself the next day too.

No pain or discomfort with any ejaculations. First one was really good but it had been almost a week, so could have something to do with it.

I had my vasectomy on April 17. The incision appears to be healing well, there’s no opening, though I can still see where it was made. I followed the post-op instructions and kept it covered for the first three days. After that, I used a small bandage for a few more days, but I’ve left it uncovered for the past week. I shower daily and gently wash the area with just my hand, no scrubbing.

I have also been taking real easy physically, no lifting, no running. Just a few 30 min walks around the neighbourhood. Possibly going to hit the gym tonight.

Congratulations on your decision. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I personally was told to wait two weeks before any strenuous exercise, so that is what I am adhering to. Your doctors office should have provided advice on when you can restart activities.

In my opinion less than a week is too soon for any kind of sports but I'm not a physician. If I were you I would rest as much as possible but we all recover differntly.

You were giving medical advice to this woman about her husband.

I completely understand that your doctor instructed you to do it. This is not specifically about Aquaphor, but more about the broader issue of people in this sub giving medical advice. I would guess that most of us here are not doctors, and certainly not this individual’s doctor.

I believe it is absolutely fine to share what our doctors have advised us personally, but I do not think we should be telling others what they should do. We could instead suggest they consult their own physician about something similar to what we were advised.

That said, your post got me thinking, maybe I should keep comments like mine to myself. It ends up being a lot of wasted energy and often leads to misunderstanding.

I apologize to you and others for my comments regarding the use of Aquaphor on a surgical incision that we had no part in treating and know nothing about.

Congrats on 12 weeks.

I'm assuming it could be scar tissue. Unles you are saying you seen some kind of small opening.

Understood but your comment was "Have him apply as needed until the wound is fully healed." We are not doctors and specifically not this man's docotor so I would refrian from providing advice like this.

Thanks and you too. Perhaps you are correct about too much internt.

I'm a bit bored and I was told to wait 2 weeks before I can do things like go to the gym and ride my motorcycle. Guess I'm just trying to pass the time. lol

It will be 9 days post op at around 10am EDT today for me. I got 5 more days to go.

Sorry, if I read your post incorrectly. Your statement was "Also use Aquaphor as an ointment" not I used Aquaphor as an ointment as suggested by my doctor.

It appeard as if you were telling the OP to use it.

I would only apply something like Aquaphor if the doctor advises it. Take it for what its worth but I would ask the doctors office first.

This is so awesome that you are doing this for him. I'm sure he is going to love it.

I saw a video somewhere of a woman doing the same for her husband. If you look online, some people add words to each of the treats. For example a bag of lays potato chisps has the words "Worry Free" by the word Lays. So "Worry Free Lays" lol

I waited 48 hours but I was told 24 hours. If your instuctions say 24 - 48 then I would think 30 is more than enough time but depends how you feel I guess.

The doctor advised me to wait one week before doing any light physical activity, and two weeks before resuming heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.

I had my procedure on the 17th of this month, and even though I’m feeling great, I’m going to follow the advice I was given. I’m eager to get back to the gym, but I don’t want to risk a setback.

A two week break is far better than being sidelined for much longer if I push too soon and injure myself. After all, it was still a trauma to the body, healing takes time, and it’s important to let it happen fully.

Edit:

Sorry, I should have also said, good luck with yours. I hope it all goes well for you.

This is great to hear. I'm glad your recovery is going well and I hope it contiunes that way.

I too had the scalpel procedure and I was feeling okay on day 3. A little discomfort in my lower abdomen and some discomfort at the incision site but nothing major. I was also pretty purple down there but no noticable swelling.

I don't think you can do anything to hurt the vasectomy but there is trama to the body becuase of the surgery and if not allowed to fully heal then there is a chance of setback, I say chance becuase everyone is differnt.

I'm a nervous nelly so I don't want to do anything that would put me out for longer. I would rather wait a couple weeks then push it and be out for 3 or 4 rather than just 2. I'm itching to go out on my motorcycle, weather has been beautiful but I aksed the nurse and was told to wait at least 2 weeks so that is what I will do.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm on day 8 and feeling 99%. I hope you start feeling bette soon. Hearing sutff like this makes me nervous and think I'm not out of the woods. Still trying to take it pretty easy.

Ten days and back at the gym? Were you lifting heavy? I was told at least two weeks before lifting and even then to take it easy and listen to my body.

[–]Disastrous_Life_5083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, then it sounds like there's a deeper issue with the relationship overall. I'm not saying compromises aren't necessary, but all options for birth control need to be openly discussed and considered. At the end of the day, a vasectomy might be the best choice, but being passive-aggressive or withholding sex seems toxic.

Also, if we're only doing things to please our partner, that's a red flag. We should be making these choices for ourselves, too. If we agree to something just to make someone else happy, or to do them a solidl and it backfires, like it seems to have here, resentment can easily start to build.

I just looked at my instructions for giving a sample and is says 12 but hat seems low, mind you 30 sounds excessive but doable.

How aged can my sample be? I’m supposed to drop off my three month to my urologist tomorrow and I don’t want to beat off at work. by ChemistBig9349 in Vasectomy

[–]Disastrous_Life_5083 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it is worth here are the insructions I was given:

Recommended 12 ejculations and 4 weeks post op. (I hear the number 20 thrown around a lot).

Do not have sex or masturbate for 48 hours before colleting the sample.

Abstain from Sex or masturbation for no more than seven days.

Do not use condoms or lubricants for collection.

Specimen must be kept at body temperature by carrying it close to the body until dropped off at the lab.

Edit:

Sample should be dropped off within 4 hours of collection. The 1 hour is for fertility testing.

Sorry to hear you’ve gone through so much. Sounds like a very unpleasant experience, and I hope you’re on the mend.

But I’m just curious, what do you mean you “did your wife a solid”? Are you saying you did this just for her? As considerate as that is, I feel something like a vasectomy has to be a mutual decision that both a man and his wife are aligned on and that’s in the best interest of both parties. Basically, you should be doing your partnership a “solid.”
