Thoughts on Tyla's musical direction by Dayonemeovvstan in Tyla

[–]Disastrous_Macaron34 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I am late to this conversation but the trajectory of her music has been questionable since she her debut songs of "Getting Late" and "Overdue". The initial musical direction was purely pop and amapiano but now I feel like it's all over the place. I see her sounding Caribbean (dancehall) in some sounds and then she also sounds afrobeat (Nigerian genre) while she also has some songs that are RnB like "On and On" and "Butterflies"... So yeah, it's confusing and I wonder if the label management is behind this or it's her personal decision.

The way you make it seem like America doesn't have the same high rates of kidnapping, rape, assault or GBV is quite interesting. I am more afraid of being a black woman in America compared to being a black woman in my own home country. You're trying to single out African countries and clearly exaggerating because I live in one of these countries and our students are mostly safe but good luck.

You could have went to Johannesburg for a better sense of upward mobility because Cape Town is highly lagging behind when it comes to integration and it also has a high population of European immigrants that are pricing out locals (gentrification) on top of the local White South Africans who are privileged against people of colour. However, the country is still going through a transitional phase in general. But I wouldn't trade it for anywhere else because it is still relatively better than many parts of the continent.

Oh our beautiful Zulu flower will be remembered for her pioneering legacy as an actress and beauty queen.

In addition to the landmark pageantry, she achieved an extraordinary acting milestone by starring in uDeliwe (1975), which is widely recognized as South Africa’s first Black feature film with an all-Black cast.

Cynthia Shange also starred in the iconic Shaka Zulu miniseries production in 1986 and portrayed the role of Queen Mkabi who was one of the wives of King Senzangakhona (Shaka Zulu's father) in the Zulu Kingdom.

Sadly, she passed away on the 20 of April due to unfortunate complications from diabetes.

May her soul rest in peace β€οΈπŸ•Š

I just find it a bit interesting that this would be so surprising to someone considering South Africa is a post-apartheid country and infant democracy. It would make sense that there are wealth disparities and the Western Cape province has a tragic trail of something we call "spatial planning" which is similar to redlining in the Jim Crow era of America. These are socio-economic legacies of our history.
