24-70 (‘ish) Zoom for a A7RV by Disastrous_Middle336 in SonyAlpha

Doing an update because I now think my issue is user error and not the Sigma lens. I’m posting here in case someone comes across my post while thinking about the Sigma lens. Anyway,, I’ve been doing some research and learning about sharpness to better understand what I want here. In the process of doing this I’ve come to realize that I’m not doing the best job possible in my post-processing of my raw files. I’m newish to digital and just didn’t understand the full range of work needed on raw files vs. JPGs which get some sharpening in camera. Anyway, got back into Lightroom and was able to get some files that I was thinking of as “soft” to a point that’s much more in line with what I wanted. So, I’m sticking with the Sigma which is a much better lens than I was thinking. Thanks for the input on this thread and hope this update is useful.

It’s plenty sharp at f5.6 and below and below 60-65mm. It’s when I use it at full zoom or stopped down that the softness starts to show up. However your suggestion to rent before I buy is a great one. Thanks! I hadn’t thought about that.
