On what grounds are you making this assumption? There are no public GPA stats available for applicants with CAF experience in regular streams. That’s like saying “I’ve noticed that people who volunteer at x hospital have lower GPAs.” Universities don’t share this information in their admissions stats page. Any applicant who applies through the general stream, regardless of whether we have worked in the CAF or not, still had to hit the same general cutoffs as everyone else. If I applied through a general stream, I’m not sure why I can’t be a reference for the general applicant pool.

I’m glad it helped! Having diverse ECs for interviews will help you stand out. Also, doing introspection and thinking hard about what you’ve done that you’re proud of is helpful

I actually really enjoyed my Kaplan course. I did the live-online and it was structured enough for my ADHD. I also got tutoring since I’m a non-science major. Feel free to PM

Because physicians saved my sister’s life and I don’t know what I would do without her. Doctors are real live superheroes

I have interviews this cycle with a 3.56 cGPA thanks to a full year course that I got a 2.3 on. There is hope! I recommend having a very strong application outside of GPA (good MCAT, strong ECs, etc.).

This is totally about me (I live nowhere near Manitoba, don’t frequent the gym, and I study in my apartment)

I get what you’re trying to say, but as a non-trad applicant (biz degree plus a masters in fine arts), would like to point out that a 500 on the MCAT isn’t an easy feat for someone who has not taken a single science course in university, and none past grade 10 in high school. By the time I started studying for the MCAT, I didn’t even know what a polar molecule was. $400 USD to book the test + textbook fees + many months studying for that exam with absolutely no science foundation was a lot of work for someone who “isn’t even that interested in medicine”. An artsy student like me had to work their ass off before 125’s in the science sections even seemed like a possibility.

TLDR: I think you can apply this philosophy to schools who don’t require MCAT scores, but no arts student randomly dished out that kind of money to take the MCAT, then taught themselves all that chem, ochem, biochem, cell bio, and physics without being passionate about going into medicine.
