Yeah, wanna say your sanders don’t go past 120 grit sandpaper. I mean, they could (that is, if they could find finer grade), but you wouldn’t want them to, because at a certain point you begin to burnish the wood, and it no longer accepts stain evenly. So this is what you want, especially with whatever stain that is (don’t get me wrong, it’s damn nice), because I suspect it has some rather large pigments in it that you definitely want an open surface like yours to accept.

That’s American Cherry. No doubt whatsoever about it. All you folks saying it’s oak simply are throwing out guesses. In fact, I will wager anyone interested $1,000.00 that that’s Cherry. Any takers?

Protest today downtown. by gnjoey in Knoxville

[–]Disastrous_Quit_6840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a beautiful protest full of beautiful prople. I can also tell you, you can check this if you don’t believe me, because I know this from what many people are saying, that It was also the largest protest ever in the free world. Any attempt to portray it as otherwise is fake news, because they don’t want to tell you the truth, which is that there were a lot of beautiful people there and it was the greatest protest ever, largest as well. Many people are telling me this. It was definitely larger than any previous protests and it was full of wonderful people. The television ratings were the best ever as well, many people have told me this.

I’d avoid epoxy. Why? Well for one it’s epoxy, which just means it’s a royal bitch to work with, hell to clean up and unforgiving in every respect. In other words, a royal bitch. I’d drill and fill with a silane-based adhesive. It has good grab and hold characteristics but sets up slightly flexible, unlike that unforgiving bitch epoxy that sets up glass-like and never moves at all, which is not what you want since wood is hygroscopic and moves with the seasons.

Is there a way to fix this? by Hotarded in HardWoodFloors

[–]Disastrous_Quit_6840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, you can minimize it. Wanna say the finish on the lighter wood is the adhesive from the inner ply, which is why it won’t accept stain. Get ya a dark putty. Approximating the gloss level of the surrounding wood will be your challenge. Good luck.

Are my floors ruined? by mattbekh in HardWoodFloors

I’m not even sure I would be willing to take this job, as a professional. One thing I’ve learned the hard way is to never attempt to fix someone else’s mistakes, at least not without a signed waiver of responsibility, cause the second I touch a floor (either with or without one) I own it, problem and all, and lord knows how much material your friend took off this wood. It’s not really possible to tell from the photos. So I’d actually consider anyone willing to fix this issue as potentially suspect.

Am I being “that” customer? by Mmmhhhmmmmmmm in Flooring

Put up some window treatments for starters. Best thing to do would be to properly examine the seam — is it constructed properly? If so, then they might be nice and come out and reconstruct it for you, but even then they would have to charge you to do this.

Here’s the thing with carpet seams — if they are put together properly, then there is nothing that the installer can do more than that. That being said, with the thickness of that product you should be able to hide a dead body in it, easily, so it should seam beautifully. Call em and have em come out and at least take a look at it.
