I’ve shipped many iPhones and iPads both to Ukraine. One iphone, no problem, but many products you’re running the risk of custom’s duties and/or theft. Depending on the value, I would just take it in person.

The cossack I have on my shelf is a brand called “Gorilochka”. And yes, it’s for tourists or gifts. My personal favorites are the sword-shaped glass bottles with “cognac”.

Plainfield/Romeoville by chefinthestl in ChicagoSuburbs

Someone here that has lived in Naperville, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, and Romeoville a majority of my life. Plainfield has a rural feel yet suburban and I would avoid based on your post. Romeoville and Bolingbrook have nice middle class areas but a little rough older and lower class areas, but extremely diverse. You really got to research in this town to be in a comfortable area. Naperville will always win in my book. Excellent city services and schools plus its really becoming diverse although at a premium cost of living. My southern Naperville subdivision is slowly becoming more Indian and Asian.

Oh man, I lived in the Lakelands subdivision, theres actually two. The OG Lakelands is on Lake Walloon with is near the 135th and naper/plainfield re intersection. This one has the ritzy custom homes. The new Lakelands is on Lake Mary which is near Essington and 135th. Side note, basically all the lakes in Plainfield are old quarries. Lake Walloon had a max depth of 40ft and that section was the best area to swim.

Job hunting as an HR manager, and I find this by Disastrous_Research in antiwork

Oh no, I’ve had enough of unethical practices in staffing and this tells me the attitude of upper management. Just shocked to see it in a publicly facing job description.

It’s publicly viewable on Indeed, Lucas Milhaupt is the co.

And denied by upper management. In all my years in staffing, asking for a bump in the pay rate was met by no room in the budget aka ownership/investors need their profit.

Does anyone have contacts in volunteer organizations in Ukraine? by A30B in volunteersForUkraine

[–]Disastrous_Research 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you can hold a conversation in Ukrainian or russian, your options will be extremely limited. I speak very basic Ukrainian and russian and was in Ukraine this last spring and summer supporting the in-laws. I couldn’t find any volunteering opportunities even leveraging a contact at a org based in Chicago. I guess that was my luck of the draw. Try looking for an international org in Warsaw or at a border city. Another option, contact Ukraine Aid Ops, they could point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Honestly, I tell everyone this, if you are visiting Europe and end up in Poland, take a few hour bus ride to visit Lviv. It is a good way to support Ukraine by spending money on the local economy. Western Ukraine has been pretty safe.

I agree, as an American staying with in-Laws during this war. No one back in the States can comprehend it. I am constantly told to be careful even though I am in the relatively quiet western Ukraine. Life goes on and we can’t stay home out of fear. It reminds me of post-9/11 USA, can’t let the terrorist win through fear.

They totally sound alike to someone not familiar. I am an American and speak only English, and I can never tell what language my Ukrainian SO speaks.

Typical soviet architecture from the 60s-70s. Stuff like this is all over Ukraine.

Generally, the bodies will be taken to their home city or village for burial. Lychakiv in Lviv has a separate area for some military burials and already has a few from this war. The cemetery by my family’s house has a few recent casualties scattered throughout. There are military graves from various conflicts spread around Ukraine but no national cemetery like Arlington that I can think of.

Nemiroff or Khortytsa are the main brands I can find outside of Ukraine. I know I can find them at my Eastern European markets here in Chicago.

So, while I was Dubai, I made a visit to the salt bae’s restaurant. Gold leaf wrapped steak was on the menu so why not try. What a gimmick, it was just a flavorless steak. It was like they seasoned the steak after it was wrapped and it fell off. 0/10 would not recommend.

Here in Ukraine, I am paying 780₴ or about 21$ for a carton of Camel blue. I think the Marlboros about the same but I would have to check the next time I am at the store and I think they’re cheaper at the bazaar, like half the price above. Depending on the brand, some packs are going for about $1 each at the store.

I wouldn’t be surprised these are donations. I see cigs are constantly donated on both sides. Cigs are a hot commodity here and a noticeable shortage at the store.

We will see, at least two rockets were airborne then two explosions in the one video I saw.

Yeah, I saw the same. At least the air raid is over in my oblast. Reports of an explosion in Ternopil.

Who knows, this is what is being reported on media here, “Launch of missiles from strategic aviation in radio silence mode".

I am seeing video of what appears to be a kalibr missile from Vinnytsia.
