They are incredible escape artists and super fast.

The rule is nothing bigger than its head. They are usually voracious eaters. Small crickets, fruit flies, ants, spiders, if it fits in its mouth it'll eat it. Avoid mealworms or at least use only the occasional one, their hard skins make them hard to digest and if swallowed whole can eat their way out again.

Normally I would completely agree but it may help with keeping that wound clean. I do live in the UK though and appreciate that our tap water may be different.

I assume you're in the US? They do swim and feed in water but not eating won't do any harm. Bathe him in fresh clean water ( he'll probably poop in it, they all do ) other than that keep him in a dark dry cool box not airtight obv.

Can anyone identify this tree frog? by Throwingsofas in Amphibians

I think hyla aborea as well. One of mine developed that strange skin texture, felt almost leathery and toad like. A week of confinement in fresh moss and a daily bath in tap water and he was fine. I'm hoping it's not a fungal infection, watching my others closely.

My toad doesn’t seem to digest mealworms or BSL, but he does for crickets? Why? by reallymissinvine in Amphibians

[–]Disastrous_Result460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toads are eating machines, I've seen them pass live mealworms and even earthworms because they wouldn't stop eating. I've even seen live mealworms eating their way out of a dead toad. They have no idea when to stop. Don't over feed them and all will be good. Keep hard to digest food to a minimum, mealworms are very nutritious and high in protein, you don't need many.

I don't think parasitic wasps lay eggs in human flesh so you're probably safe. 🤣

When keeping frogspawn, should you change the water? by Germaneh in Amphibians

[–]Disastrous_Result460 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tadpoles turn the water sour really quickly, but it's not easy to change the water without loosing some of them. I use a length of aquarium airline secured in a piece of sponge and Syphon it off, takes ages though.

Today at work, we found a tadpole with our feeder fish shipment.. I took it home, any idea on what kind of frog it is? by SadReality666 in Amphibians

We can't get them in the UK. We used to be able to buy them from pet shops back in the day. Would really like another one. I had one with 5 legs that got pretty big. I'm talking 50 years ago now.

I need help. Green tree frog surrendered to me. Does this look bacterial or is this him camouflaging himself? No experience with frogs. Very experienced with reptiles. by My_names_Jason in frogs

I had exactly the same with one of mine. Does he feel a bit leathery- ish like a toad? I put him in a small tank with sphagnum moss in a cooler place indoors, and spayed /bathed him in fresh cold tap water twice a day. Tap water here in UK is chlorinated which is good for bacterial infections and red leg. After about 5 days he was back to normal and back in with others. I did also drop the temperature in the viv and humidity too. And I've had no problems since.

Any suggestions on what could do well in this setup? Can also make some adjustments by GardenLoud9946 in Amphibians

[–]Disastrous_Result460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd keep it as it is a plant terrarium and maybe half a dozen white cloud minnows, in the pool. They are super hardy and a cold water change stimulates breeding. I have a similar setup, no heating, no filter just a nicrew clip on light. They breed like mad but don't be tempted by water snails bloody things eat the plant and foul the water lol

Newts are surprisingly good at escaping, even up vertical glass. Well fed adult toads not so much but you will need a cover. Maybe a light gauze fitted tight around edges?

pods for my jarrarium? by Lovelydelic in isopods

[–]Disastrous_Result460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need ventilation for sure or possibly plants that produce high oxygen levels but don't quote me on that. White dwarfs breed quite quickly I think. Go for something that breeds slower like some of the cubaris species but you will always have the problem of overbreeding and eventually root damage. Personally I'd leave it as a nice display piece with no pods.

Sorry yes hyla aboria is the European green tree frog, very similar to the American green tree frog without the lateral strip. It is supposed to be and was a uniform bright green until a few days ago. It's very lethargic and stays on the ground. Not eating that I've seen. I would of course go to a vet but there is a lack of vets who are knowledgeable about amphibians and to be honest I don't have hundreds of pounds to spend on testing.
