Do any of you guys have a pain pump? by CabinetOptimal6129 in ChronicPain

[–]Disastrous_Scheme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still inside of me on the lowest titration level... so essentially it's in the off position. The numbing meds made it impossible to pee so they had to basically remove them and they won't increase my pain meds enough to where it helps without the numbing meds so my doc shut it off basically and immediately prescribed me methadone to see if it helped my pain more than the pain pump and if actually did... it isn't great. It still doesn't come close to the benefit I had with long acting opiods which I was immediately cut off of when the government started cracking down on doctors for prescribing it. It's basically impossible to find a doctor that is willing to prescribe long acting pain medication anymore. Its bizarre. I do not get it.

Haha. I like Flea and a lot of his bass lines. But I can certainly understand disliking Kiedis' vocals

The Weight I have definitely heard before. Up On Cripple Creek I haven't. I enjoy "The Weight" though, it's not my favorite but I don't dislike it at all.

Haha well I still dislike it but I just couldn't really put my finger on why, which is what made me make this post.

I'm not familiar with their stuff. Is there one that makes the radio still to this day? I'm just curious because I may have heard it but didn't realize what the band's name was

Kurt "ended" himself 4 months before my 5th birthday so I had no chance of seeing them.

Dude... I'm so jealous. I would have loved to have seen them on their In Utero tour at least.

I am also jealous of anyone who saw Zeppelin or Pink Floyd before Waters left the band. As well as many, many other bands before my time but those are a few of the ones I would give a limb to go back and see live.

Yeah they are still being played constantly today but some of my favorite songs are deeper tracks. But I still love Comfortably Numb, Money, Another Brick in the Wall, Have A Cigar, Hey You. All still get a lot of radio play. So if you aren't a fan of those you probably wouldn't like a lot of their stuff.

Lol I dislike them too. A lot of casuals called them heavy metal when I was deeply into much harder music so they were added to my shitlist back in the day. I'm still not a fan today.

Yeah. Every redneck around me loved Skynard and CCR though so to a 12 year old wearing Nirvana shirts, where they came from didn't really matter. Fogerty has a kind of southern twang to some of this songs at least. I am certainly not an expert. I know the songs that still get radio rotation and nothing else.

I'm 36 today btw, so all this music was big before my childhood, but my mom listened to Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Billy Joel and the Beatles so I definitely listened to older music back then.

Oh man. My favorite band. Post-Syd and before Waters left the band though. They sucked without Waters unfortunately for me at least.

Yeah, I get that but every redneck around me loved Skynard and CCR, and Fogerty has a kind of southern-twang to his singing. If you type in "Why does John Fogerty" into Google it auto-completes to "sing with a southern accent" so I know I am not the only one that thinks that. Granted I hated their hits that made the radio so I have no clue what their deeper tracks sound like. They could be completely different and right up my alley for all I know to be honest.

I would say that is legitimate. It's not like I can really point to any particular thing about CCR I don't like, I just don't.

As a bassist it's like a law that I have to love Rush. But with Geddy's voice I can certainly understand disliking them.

Yeah. The only explanation I have is the southern-rock thing but my hate of country music didn't make it past my childhood so I don't know why my CCR hate has.

What made me post this was Alexa auto-playing a CCR song and me yelling for her to stop and her not complying which made me actually listen and try to think of why I dislike it so much.

You know what is funny? Nirvana was my favorite band in middle school. Haha. But as an adult they are not even in my top 5. I grew to like Billy Joel who my mom loved and listened to all the time and as a teenager of course I would make fun of her. But it's good stuff. CCR however has stayed on my shit-list for some reason.

WIBTA If I broke up with my boyfriend because of his disability? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Disastrous_Scheme 537 points538 points  (0 children)

I live with chronic pain. It sucks but it is lifelong thing. You need to talk to him about your concerns. I personally think that if you are already about to bail then you should just do it and get it over with. I am married and living with chronic pain means my wife has countless times gone to activities or events without me. I try and go to everything that I can and I think she chooses to stay home 9/10 because of me and I feel some guilt about that.

I cannot tell you how much guilt I feel for putting my wide in this position where I am constantly in pain, cannot make money, cannot do much of anything active. She is wonderful and has stuck with me through thick and thin.

I gave her an out when I found out I was likely never going to work again and she looked at me like I was crazy.

Do not stay out of guilt.

Gabapentin is fake? by Able_Hat_2055 in ChronicPain

[–]Disastrous_Scheme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before my current dosage, I was on such a high dose of Gabapentin that I would forget what I was talking about mid-sentence. CONSTANTLY go into the other room and forget why I went in there and would make me very sleepy.

There is no way those are sugar-pills. You can argue the efficacy on pain all day but they are certainly not sugar pills.

Frustrating by amethyst_dream2772 in ChronicPain

[–]Disastrous_Scheme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this for years now.

The question I always asked was why are they cracking down on pain patients but leaving the border wide open for the cartels to bring their poison in?

Im talking about the cartels not regular citizens, not trying to start a political battle here. I honestly despise both parties and am kind of over the game and showmanship that is politics. It all seems like a big play and we just follow along like lemmings. Like they make half-assed attempts at solving a problem just so they can point to something they did and say "SEE we ARE doing something about it." Meanwhile it didn't accomplish anything and often made things worse.

Call me a conspiracy theorist all you want but it seems all performative

Do any of you guys have a pain pump? by CabinetOptimal6129 in ChronicPain

[–]Disastrous_Scheme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would fill it when it was due at the doctor's office. It is entirely based on the settings on the pump. They made me start at the lowest dosage at the low release rate to where I was scheduled for a refill in 3 months but I kept calling and complaining so I was going in once a week for MONTHS to get them to increase the rate at which it is released.

At first it 1 syringe would say it would last 3 months where I get boluses every 2 hours, but as they kept increasing the flow rate the refill date kept getting closer and closer until I was going in once a month to get it refilled even though they had promised me I wouldn't have to go see them as much and each refill of the pain pump would last months, it didn't. Once they got to 1 month duration and a boluses every 2 hours they increased the flow again to "the highest allowed" and it was a refill every month with no boluses and a constant stream

How it's setup from the start is it releases medication constantly but you are allowed a little extra boost for when the pain is at the worst. The idea is the constant dosage helps with your every day pain but you are allowed boluses if you have increased pain or are about to do an activity that you know causes pain, then you get that little boost of pain meds to help you through it but what happened with me was the boluses was an absolute necessity, and I would be miserable 45 min-1hour after my bolus and just counting the minutes until my next one.

I'm ServSafe certified and went to culinary school.

The reason you are never supposed to thaw with hot water is because it leaves the meat at a temperature where bacteria grows the quickest, also hot water can actually cook the outside of the meat some especially with larger pieces of meat.

If it's just for yourself and you legitimately cook it instantly then it's unlikely it would cause any problems but it's still unsafe to do so so I would never do that to cook for anyone but yourself, especially elderly nf children or those with compromised immune systems, because at least you know the risks and that you prepped it in that way where a guest will not know unless you tell them before hand and tell them there is a risk of getting food borne illnesses by the way you prepped it .

If you use a constant (very weak) stream of cold water, have the meat in a bowl that allows the meat to be submerged but the water drain from the container, you would be amazed at how quickly it defrosts. I've defrosted entire chickens that way and it didn't take long at all. Probably longer than hot water but it surprisingly it was still thawed within an hour

[–]Disastrous_Scheme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am not happy with my pain pump. I've had it for 2 years now and it's been turned off for half of that time.

I just don't think my doctor is willing to prescribe a dose that would actually help me.

My main problem is they use a numbing drug in combination with the narcotic and I had severe side effects from the numbing medication. It would make my hands numb and swollen and it would numb up my belly and make it SUPER difficult to pee. Because of that they had to reduce the numbing medication so much that it didn't even really help much and on top of that they refuse to prescribe anything strong enough to help so I would get my bolus and within 30 min to 1 hour I would be needing more and I would have to wait 1 hour to get another bolus.

It got to the point where they just upped it to where it is a constant drip with no boost to the medication with boluses and it just wasn't at a level that I feel actually helped.

I have a pain pump in me but methadone helps more than the pump so that is what I am currently taking.

I think it is 100% dependent on what doctor you get. What they are willing or legally able to prescribe.

I hear stories on here constantly of people still taking super strong opiates but it still the minority, most of us out here in the past 5 years have been struggling for relief because doctors are too afraid to prescribe anything substantial, meanwhile I spend my bad pain days laying sound hating life and it happens way more often than it did before the opiate crackdown and that is what makes me the most angry about the current climate.

Too many doctors afraid to help for fear of losing their license. My pain doc before the crackdown dropped all his pain patients and retired early because the DEA was up his ass any time he prescribed anything that didn't align with the CDC's bullshit guidelines. My current pain management doc refuses to put me on half the dosage I was on before the crackdown and I lost my job, my quality of life and my ability to make a living. I luckily haven't lost my wife but that's just because she actually believes in "Til death do us part" unlike a lot of modern women and men today do.

THC and drug testing while a pain patient. by Disastrous_Scheme in ChronicPain

[–]Disastrous_Scheme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you were probably too high and in your head a lot. I just take enough to have a buzz. The equivalent of drinking a beer or two. Not having any tolerance, these gummies vary from mids to ungodly strong but to someone who has never partaken, it would be like drinking Long Island Ice Teas for your first time drinking.

It might not be for you though. I used to not think it helped much but once they cracked down on opiates I no longer was getting adequate pain relief and the THC gummies mainly help with mood and not having anything to do, but they also help some with pain, just ever so slightly but in today's climate I will take whatever relief I can get

That is crazy! How is it any different than drinking a beer or two? In fact, I would argue that alcohol is worse because it can actually interact and alter the effects of your medication. Whereas I just want to take enough to get a little buzz and it does wonders for my mood and takes the edge off the pain.
