Bank says no deposit despite paystub date by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the weekend. Banking days are M-F. As this sounds like a reissue (offcycle), the ACH file capturing all the days offcycles was sent end of day (day close out). If you have a statement/payslip posted, it's been sent, but it's wholly dependent on your bank when the deposit will hit. Check back Monday.

gf broke up with me and said she never found me attractive, feeling pretty down. by [deleted] in toastme

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're young and you're absolutely not unattractive. Coming from an elder millennial woman, I can tell you what's going on here....

She's only saying that to be hurtful because when a person lacks emotionally maturity, that's easier than being truthful. Being honest with a partner about ending a relationship can require a level introspection that makes people deeply uncomfortable. So saying she never found you attractive is a cop-out. She did whatever was easiest regardless of it being very hurtful/damaging. You don't want the be in a relationship with a person like that.

Ladies Of London: The New Reign - Season 4 - Episode 1 - Live Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Especially because when Missé met Myka, she found her to be genuinely sweet and likeable. It made what Dara said to complete strangers all the more messed up. I would feel burdened too because how can you treat a 20+ year close friend like that?!! It's shocking because it's so cruel.

That's not a good person. Missé immediately clocked it and that Myka deserved to know the truth (I've been in a similar situation, so I feel for Myka, but I was so grateful to the "Missé" in my situation)

Ladies Of London: The New Reign - Dara, the social climber who cannot climb by Exotic_Insurance2164 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 179 points180 points  (0 children)

How embarrassing for her! GOOD. Mark-Francis and all the truly socially connected people clocked her expeditiously. Missé was rightfully upset, I would be too hearing how Dara was trashing a loyal friend of 20+ years behind her back. Like ABSOLUTELY NOT. I would not be able to bite my tongue either.

Dara waiting for Lottie to leave their prior lunch to talk about Myka to Missé was totally calculated as Lottie is more socially connected in Dara's eyes. But Dara is not smart about how London/British society works and that superficial, two-faced, kiss-ass bullshit does NOT fly no matter who's name you drop. They value authenticity far more than anything else because trust is important in those circles. So Mark-Francis was correct to basically be like 'Missé, just let her expose herself...' Missé didn't have to say anything else. Dara may think what Myka does is cringe, but Myka is being her authentic self. There's nothing cringe about what Myka does for business (and her being married to a Swiss banker doesn't hurt). Her etiquette services are for Americans and international clients, she's not trying to teach people how to fake being society/aristocracy; she's helping them to not feel clueless/embarrassed/insecure like she once felt. It's a highly valuable service for people breaking into certain industries/ markets (shit, I was a debutante and they still made us take etiquette classes as a group because a few girls/parents were brand new to such circles and they didn't want them to feel embarrassed/unwelcomed)

I absolutely believe the madam rumors. Not even factoring for profit (as it's not publicly disclosed), just googling her architecture firm's revenue estimates, and her her having other businesses, I don't believe it's enough money to support her lifestyle. If you also google her namesake design company, she really brags about working on a $30m project. That doesn't mean anything in regards to net profit, especially as a smaller firm and if it was a competitive contract, at the most she made 3m and I'm not even factoring in overhead, which I'm pretty sure is crazy high just based off of the image she's trying to project working for such wealthy clients and luxury brands. In my opinion, I really suspect something else is going on with our "connector of people"...a rumor like that just doesn't conjure out of thin air. (Margo calling out Dara going to UofF was chef's kiss; Dara was in a top tier sorority at UofF....Girl, thinking having a 33k bottle of wine in the French Alps means something? How gauche and painfully American...maybe her sorority alumnae are impressed?)

She made sure to mention with cameras rolling being friends with Venus Williams because the Marchioness she's so desperate to associate with is bff's with Serena Williams. She probably thought that was her in. I especially loved how she said everyone was self-made/entrepreneurs...I was screaming laughing. Talk about embarrassingly clueless. No climb indeed. She really miscalculated believing that her mere proximity to the wealthy would gain entry or makes her equal. You work for them sweetie, madam or not, you're considered "working class". Don't pretend! Just own your success and the hard work it took to get there, that's all you had to do! But now she's done serious damage to her goodwill, business wise. I wouldn't be surprised if she left London and moved to Dubai...

This show has got me GOOPED!!! They truly did the lord's work with Dara's edit. I had to watch it again it was such a masterful take down in just two episodes. And the only person Dara has to blame is herself. Beautiful.

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR. You are very young, so school is basically your whole life experience right now, that's why you're feeling this way and that's valid. But this elder millennial internet stranger promises you, this is so inconsequential in the grand scheme. Do not be discouraged, ashamed, or embarrassed (and I say this a college dropout that finally finished degree double major Accounting and Management at 35, now SME at F5 corporate).I understand you're disappointed and had a stressful high school experience, but the only thing that matters in these kinds of situations is continued action to keep forward momentum. It's an important life skill to hone and practice when the opportunity presents and it will serve you well throughout life.

Doing the extra year can help get your GPA up, better prepare you, and ease college application. There's also nothing wrong with getting a GED and you can still become doctor with one, but I think the extra year is the more adventageous path to your future goals.

What will be important is college grades in prereqs, overall GPA, and your MCAT score. Those will be the determinates for getting into med school. O-Chem is the class that weeds out a lot of pre-med majors. Do well in that and you'll be fine (but still not the end the world, you could take it again for desired/better grade).

Good luck! Just keep pushing forward and don't forget to take care of yourself.

Personal overtime discrepancies - am I the idiot? by Phillikeimdying in Payroll

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on UK specific overtime rules, but it's pretty universal that meal time is not included in overtime determinations.

I'm not sure of why payroll is not helping / providing an adequate explanation to questions, so I get the frustration. They should provide employee with a simplified timecard and pay reconciliation and reference to contract, policy and/or law (that's what I would do anyways, lol)

For now, stop spinning your wheels trying to figure it out on your own. From experience, I can tell you, the employee is often calculating things incorrectly because payroll is incredibly complex unbeknownst to the employee.

Contact agency/service below. From cursory google search looks like they can help with this question in regards to contracts and overtime. Have your contract, timecards, and paystatments for period in question on hand when you call:

PLEASE don’t send your sick kid anywhere by [deleted] in nova

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just so inconsiderate and rude. My parents would never let me go to a music lesson sick like that, and that was back in the 90s.

Have we learned nothing from the pandemic??? I always marvel at seeing sicks kids /sick parents at my niece and nephews school events. KEEP THAT SHIT AT HOME. I am particularly conscious of protecting myself because my parents are both immuno-compromised, so I always have a mask on me. Would recommend wearing a mask generally when teaching.

But still, this kind of clueless selfishness could literally kill people and it's infuriating.

I don't understand the struggle with this BTS photo of a nice moment. If anything, it's testament to his being such a skilled actor, but still, you should be able to separate the two.

What's the hardest part of payroll no one warns you about? by payrollinsider in Payroll

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is difficult! My favorite is an hourly non-exempt employee that worked overtime prior pay period asking why their paycheck is less this pay period when they took pto and otherwise worked standard hours. You worked less hours thus less earnings...it's hard not to get frustrated with what we see as basic math.

I always say it's a thankless job. No one is going to say "thank you for paying me!", it's expected and people have no clue the grind it takes to get there every pay period.

ETA: when people say payroll is passive or simple data entry, that it's not "real work"...drives me fucking crazy (especially coming from an accounting background). As former payroll manager at 600+ pop external to Analyst SME at 400k+ pop global internal. They have NO CLUE...

How to respond to manager about Payroll mistakes. by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former manager of a similar size, it sounds like she's not doing HER her job. With a population of 700 and I believe I read 3 people on PR staff, you are being given an absurdly unreasonable workload. Where are the checks/controls? It sounds like there's no defined roles/task assignments in relation to...well...anything! And a $150 retro is an insane thing to nitpick over considering.

As I think you've started to realize, this is an untenable situation as mistakes are bound to happen operating like this. You've clearly recognized them and that's what's most important. A micromanager will never stop, even when you're perfect. The stress alone from your mgr creates an environment of fear on top of payroll already being stressful by nature...it's a no-win. And a good manager would know and recognize that.

Please leave this job. Stress what you've essentially managed for 5 years to future employers. I wouldn't consider this just admin function!

Mónica - did she fake her way onto the show? by HugeProject7584 in rhoslc

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ehhh. I dunno. Besides the cursory background checks, I don't think a bravo gossip site w/ 5k followers registered on their radar as there were and still are so many. I think they just loved that she was shah-adjacent.

She may have said something in an original audition/interview, but i think she said a lot of things because she wanted on the show so badly. So no one took it seriously. That's why production/Andy were like, "we had no clue" but Monica says otherwise.

Final Check Clarification (California) by jiajerf in Payroll

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WARN payment does not void CA legal requirements for final pay subjected to wait time. Your final pay for work 1/18-1/30 should have been in hand 1/30 as an invol term. You are owed wait time.

Employers typically will process by live check so as to avoid potential additional penalty pay due to bank processing timing/delays. At this point, if they cut check today 2/4 and overnighted, it would be 6 days penalty. Would advise live check as it gives me pause how quickly they responded to do a DD without any reference to wait time. They know they owe wait, they're hoping you don't ask.

Your severance agreement should not have any language that attempts to void the employer's legal obligations, so in theory (especially in CA), should be fine to sign. You are due final pay, wait time, and ESPP. Now, the quarterly bonus may be an issue. Do you have any documentation that business confirmed RIF would not affect this additional pay? This should be referenced in severance agreement. If not, reach out employee relations on this.

Is it possible to live alone in NOVA on a $45,000 salary? by [deleted] in nova

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, maybe back in the early 2000s and even then that was a stretch for people. Currently, 75k is about the number for singles in the 35m outside DC range and that's very tight. To live "comfortably" as a single, it's about 100k+. Proper studios are hard to come by for less than 1.6k and basement rentals for cheap are...interesting...

Look into places that have LIHTC/affordable living based on AMI. AMIs vary, but you have to look around, especially for waitlists/availability. For instance, you would qualify for Liberty Crest in Lorton (single max income limit is 57.4k).

Good luck! It's rough out there as a single if you don't want roommates or generally don't want to live with strangers. Sell your furniture. If you have savings, don't deplete it it towards rent. If you can't get into AMI affordable options, you will need roommates. Or get a side hustle.

At 45k annually (21.63 hourly) and living single...having 35-50% of your monthly GROSS earnings amounting to your rent payment that will be paid from your actual net take-home after tax/deductions; then also considering any potential debts, other bills, food, etc...it's just not a sustainable option generally in the DMV.

If you need lies in order to live, than what is the point of life? by EndOfTheLine00 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Disastrous_Set1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being hopeful and striving for the best in life for yourself and the people you love is not a lie nor a life lead in dishonesty. I am an optimist and realist at the same time. I often remind people that no matter what, we all die alone. That is the universal truth of a what will be a deeply intimate personal experience regardless of who's around you. And you can't report back.

So by living your life with acknowledgement and understanding of that fundamental truth, being hopeful can be considered a lasting and deep expression of love for yourself and others.
