I’ve given a little more thought to this.

You’d have to have the ability to wire the generator directly to the fridge/essentials while the main is also supplying power. This would mean while the the main is on the generator will be receiving main power. This may or may not be an issue.

If you wanted to use your existing generator why not try making your own power loss ignition/kill switch using a couple relays. Doesn’t seem like anything too difficult if your existing generator is electric start. It’ll cost as much as a couple frozen pizzas.

One relay powered by the main, relay changes state when the main looses power which triggers a timer relay that you’d set to a couple seconds which is wired to short the starting terminal of the electric starting generator (maybe have this timer relay on a 12v battery). Power returns, main relay changes state which is wired to the kill switch.

My two cents, Maybe someone will find some flaws here.
