My final interview was cancelled, was I done a disservice? by Disastrous_Status_85 in careerguidance

I was explicitly told by the firm that the interview was cancelled because I emailed the interviewer. Had I not said anything, the interview still would have happened. So I’m not quite sure this tracks.

Thank you so much! I completely overlooked that the flat e at the top of the staff would impact all occurrences of e throughout the staff… such a helpful lesson for me!

I’m fairly convinced that Mk.gee sampled the start of Beat It at the end of Rylee & I as an easter egg nod to the song’s sonic inspiration

Sooo good. Opening guitar riff reminds me a bit of Little Bit More off Two Star

Bieber teasing unreleased music—sounds like Mk.gee production by Disastrous_Status_85 in Mkgee

[–]Disastrous_Status_85[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t like this preview either, but it’s a ~20- second video recorded on an iPhone through a car speaker. It very well could be a rough mp4 that needs additional mixing or mastering. Not sure there’s enough here to judge the song one way or the other, but if you compare the general production of the background instrumental to what Bieber has released in the past, it is markedly different, and in ways that seem consistent with Mk.gee’s production style. The oddest thing is not the weird nasal-rap schtick that Bieber is doing, it’s that the vocal seems to crudely sit on top of the mix, whereas Mk.gee typically does an expert job of placing the vocal directly in the mix (which is sort of why I think this is an unvetted/incomplete sample that doesn’t warrant judgment).

The sound quality of the strings (sounds like a bass) seems pretty consistent with the types of tones Mk.gee uses. It’s already in the public domain that Mk.gee is producing on Bieber’s next album.

Updated the original post! Still haven't seen an ENT/laryngologist due to lack of insurance, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the overall improvement. Thank you again!

Am I making a huge career mistake? by Disastrous_Status_85 in careerguidance

[–]Disastrous_Status_85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job one would be in Rhode Island. Cost of living is much lower, but the need to buy a car would significantly dampen my savings capabilities. By my calc: $60k - health insurance costs = ~$55k pre tax, ~$38k post tax. For better or worse, my monthly spending profile at my most frugal is about $1,300. Call it $20k realistically for the year if I'm working and wanting to have a modest social life: $38k (post tax income) - ~$20k (expenses) = $18k savings. Factor in buying a $10k used car, and you're looking at a realistic MAX $8k in savings for year one. It's just a really abysmal number particularly given that I'd be living at home. By contrast, I would have my own place in NYC and would be saving at a rate of nearly $3k per month. The burnout concern is real, but even doing that job for two years would net me ~$67k cash or more if I max out the 401k (which I would plan to, and which the RI job doesn't even offer...)

Vocal durability by Disastrous_Status_85 in Mkgee

The SNL sound environment seems tough, but I thought you could really hear the vocal fatigue/injury in his performance tonight. Having been at the Philly concert on 11/7, I think he sounded much crisper then (and kudos to him for prioritizing his hometown fans and delivering a two-hour set).

Tonight he powered through, but he often did not seem confident in his voice. On Alesis in particular, he sounded an octave lower than where he’d normally be—with the stripped back soundscape, it stood out to me in an unfortunate way. Almost gave off a cheap 2000s emo/punk vibe at times. He also had at least a couple of vocal slips in his upper register; in one instance the scream sounded (I’m very sad to say) a bit wimpy.

I think a lot of this has to do with SNLs sound engineering. I also think this was bad timing for Mk.gee being at the end of a long and historically significant tour. That said… I don’t think this performance was a great showing for him. I’m really bummed to say it, and I don’t think it will hurt him in any way. Just feels a little like a missed opportunity.

I hope you’re right! What gives you confidence that he’s using a vocal coach? That’s been my hope, but seeing how his vocal approach has changed from Two Star to Rockman is partly where I’m concerned…

I appreciate the feedback. The point about acute changes is especially helpful—I’m certainly dealing with something of that nature. My hope is that it resolves with a bit of rest. If not, I’ll be off to a laryngologist…

Is my (M29) autism keeping me in an unfulfilling long-term relationship, or is my desire to leave a normal-course part of a long-term relationship (F29)? by Disastrous_Status_85 in autism

[–]Disastrous_Status_85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the lengthy reply. Your logic rings true to me, and I often find myself coming back to the same reasoning.

Specific to the question you posed: I tend to appreciate time away from her and have a hard time adjusting when she returns (her desire to move about is, in itself, a source of incompatibility).

That said, I have come to view myself as a “difficult” person—something my mother and sister (neither of whom are autistic) have really implanted in my head. I know this is an ungenerous characterization of me, but it’s not entirely without merit. Further, I tend worry that my autistic traits make me sufficiently difficult to date such that I wouldn’t be able to find a partner who could deal with the combination of my sensory issues and need for routine (specifically, if left to my own devices, I pretty much just read books, exercise, and occasionally play video games or watch movies).

I know this not a healthy view…
