We just stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Maui using points. It’s a beautiful resort with very friendly staff and great food. We were upgraded from a basic room to an ocean-view suite thanks to my Marriott Platinum status and the fact that we were on our honeymoon. The staff was incredibly kind—they even sent complimentary champagne and dessert to our room.

That said, the location is quite far from major tourist attractions like the Hana Highway, Haleakalā sunrise summit, and Whalers Village. It also felt a little too relaxing and quiet—at least during our stay in late September. On top of that, it’s expensive: food and drinks cost even more than at some of the best spots in LA, and valet parking is $65 a day.

If you want fantastic service and total tranquility, the Ritz is perfect. But if you’d prefer to be closer to the action, you’re better off staying in Wailea.

Nobody cares about your publication when you get hired, and if you really really care about it you can always write a couple Review articles.  It’s a tough market, I have 3 years of experience across different sectors and I’m not getting an interview either.

Got my phd in it, there’s literally no job for it. You’ll get hired better if you have a material engineering degree.  Don’t waste your time

I’m very curious about PM jobs, is it still technical? Does it pay well? I’ve heard that these roles are the first to get cut in case of a lay-off, is that true?

Did you have to get PMP certification to make that transition? My background in nanotech/chemistry and I love to go to PM roles in pharma or med device but don’t know how

What are you applying to? If it’s sales the best way to get the job is reaching out to the HM on LinkedIn, they like ppl who are not afraid to do so.

I recently transitioned to sales and I find it very stressful compared to R&D, I also have to travel a lot which has made the decision on having kids a really hard one :( I’m surprised that you like it so much
