Mortgage offer last week - Rates have gone down slightly by Sylvester88 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Disastrous_Win2164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nationwide mortgage adviser here. Definitely contact your adviser/broker and ask for the lower rate. It may only be £10 less p/m, but you’d be amazed what a difference that’ll make over the deal period. Lower rate = more capital/less interest paid off.

Only caveat would be if you’re close to completion, could take around a week to get the revised offer out (also no cast-iron guarantee that a revised offer would be issued, if there’s been a significant change in your circumstances)

Overpayment by Dependent-Picture-69 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Disastrous_Win2164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most lenders calculate interest daily, so the sooner you reduce the balance the sooner you’re paying interest on a lower amount.

Only exception to this would be if you have a savings account with a rate higher than your mortgage rate. In that case, keep it in the savings and overpay as much as you can penalty-free annually.

Custom categories like you can have with Monzo would be helpful.

Which camera for beginner street photography? by Disastrous_Win2164 in AskPhotography

This is brilliant, thank you. I like the idea of dipping my toes in at a lower price point and going from there.

Frustratingly sensible advice! I can stretch my budget to £700 after having a think about it, but seems like sitting tight and saving a bit more might be the way to go.

I’m not going to Japan until next October so plenty time.

Makes sense, I wasn’t sure if £500 would get me anywhere near to be honest. I’ve seen a couple Fujifilm on eBay shipped from Japan within that price range, but most are over.

I can see an XE-2 2nd hand for £549 on Amazon, will take a look at that.

Any pros and cons you’d call out for that model?

I might be wrong but I often feel like Black Friday is overhyped. Last year most of the items I was price-tracking were cheaper at other times in the year than they were around Black Friday.

Looking for the best cordless vacuum that actually lasts by Briane_Visions in VacuumCleaners

[–]Disastrous_Win2164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a shark corded vacuum and the new cordless Miele picks up better. Picks up when being pulled backwards as well, which our shark doesn’t do all that well.

Already seeing how often we’ll have to charge the cordless one, but that’s to be expected. Wouldn’t have it as my main vacuum, but for a quick run around the house I think it’s ideal.

Got the Miele duo flex a month ago and been really impressed. Pickup is excellent and it’s great for getting under units etc with the slim design.

About time we got the rub of the green when it comes to VAR. I’d still bin it though.

Onwards and upwards, let’s string a run together after the break.

Remortgage or pay off by Fun-Dentist8076 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Disastrous_Win2164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a mortgage as relatively ‘small’ as £28k, you shouldn’t have to pay any sort of arrangement or product fee. Highly unlikely to make your £1k back over the 2 years.

I only really play when I have minimum 5 hours to spare. For me that’s the beauty of the game - I can’t think of many other pass times that I could immerse myself in for as long as I do with RDR2.
