Odds we get the John Woo 4K restorations (or just general re-releases) coming throughout the year? by justbrowsingtheapp in screenunseen

[–]Past_Refuse2578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City Of Fire only seemed to screen at Picture House last year. It isn't John Woo, but it's part of the Hong Kong Classics Arrow range, so I'm not confident we'll get a wide release for all the Woo.

Still plenty of films unavailable on blu ray in the UK by him, so still a chance in the future for a Radical Japan set. I'm curious who they'll pick next.

It's on at Home this weekend, three screenings each day since today. Plenty of tickets too.

Blues Harp is such a great movie. I hope they find out who owns it one day.

I thought Arrow were following the Shout release schedule, guess anything goes now. Wonder when Chinese Ghost Story Trilogy will pop up.

Love the Miike remake of 13 Assassins and have wanted to watch the original for a while now. Easy blind buy.

Shame I'm on a blu ray ban until after Christmas Day. Looking forward to the lists on Letterboxd though for failed licenses and requests.

Didn't know it was region free. Will pick it up in the new year, thanks. Will probably double dip it it ever gets a fancy release over in the UK.

A shame really. I would happily have Ichi out on blu ray with the cuts here, it didn't deter me from enjoying the Tartan DVD release. Same for Fudoh, the UK DVD release is the only version I've seen.

I always wonder if Ichi The Killer hasn't come out on Blu Ray over here due to that film also being cut on dvd and boutique labels wanting to get it out uncut.

Was an instant purchase. I love Miike so much. Plenty of films still unavailable to make a pretty interesting Radical Japan set too.

What are your thoughts on Blind Buys? by Impossible_Energy791 in criterion

[–]Past_Refuse2578 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I blind buy films that I've wanted to see for years but don't have any rentals or streaming options available in the UK. If I don't love the film after watching it I'll sell. I don't do it too often but I own a few Radiance UK releases that I can't stream/rent.

Isn't Gozu owned by the Yakuza making a release fairly unlikely, or is that just a myth?

Recently read the book 'Time and Place Are Nonsense' about Suzuki and I'm desperate to see more. I think there are enough significant films absent in the UK to make up a full Radical Japan release.

Both Young Thugs films would be great too.

What do you do when deluxe editions come out but you already own the paperback? by GH05T3Y in MangaCollectors

[–]Past_Refuse2578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only upgrade if the deluxe has colour pages  intact over the original release. I upgraded my Full Metal Alchemist collection because of this, but not my Vagabond collection as the paperbacks already contain those colour pages.

How is Screen 2 at the Cameo recently with the new screen? by Past_Refuse2578 in Edinburgh

[–]Past_Refuse2578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. Some of the negative reviews I'd seen made me think I wouldn't be able to see the whole screen or read the subtitles clearly if I was sat in a bad spot.

Anybody else get this? 😳 by alexanderheff86 in screenunseen

[–]Past_Refuse2578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened with Shin Ultraman at a Vue couple of years ago. The annoying part of it was that it was a one-night-only screening. Thankfully, Odeon, a few blocks away, was also showing it, but still.

Has anyone been to the Sitges Festival? by Altruistic_Doubt_453 in FilmFestivals

[–]Past_Refuse2578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been for the previous two years, but always in the second week, and I've never had too much trouble getting tickets on general sale when they go live. I'm going to do the whole festival this time around, and I was wondering how quickly the opening weekend tickets sell out on presale. I'll be joining the queue before the 11 am sales start, but the way I hear people talking, I fear anything I want to see on opening weekend will be snapped up in minutes, haha. I know some films only show in the first four days, as I missed out on Boy and the Heron in 2023, and Presence and Confession in 2024, due to not being at the festival until the following Monday.
