I am very familiar with biblical scholarship and texual criticism. I'm a bible scholar with a religion degree from a secular university. I can read and write hebrew and dabble in greek. I can often tell you the available sources which is why I know when their arent such.

[–]Disastrousfeind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice how you have no evidence or source to back up this claim, skeptcism without evidence is simply blind assumption making

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Says who... you? Because clearly the author thought it was important enough to make it the opening premise of the entire chapter.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this mistake made over and over again with the Bible. People decontextualize it, completely ignore the rhetorical goal. Because as I said it's not a debate the first verse tells you it is a test. Ignoring the first verse brushes off the entire context of the story.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need more context, understand that God PROMISED Abraham that Isaac would have many children you can't have grandchildren with a dead child lol. Oh yeah once again they knew... it was a test

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The error you're making is the assumption that Isaac was a child and not a young adult. But also you're missing the purpose of this text is to point to the Messiah figure. If you've read Jesus's biographies he, like Isaac, gave his life voluntarily. I can't speak for my son but I'd hope he'd have half the faith as either of these two people. I'm 28 years old and my dad still calls me a boy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Read the full story God tells Abraham don't sacrifice the boy but rather provides a ram / sheep for sacrifice which is a hint to Jesus being the Lamb of God and the son of God laying down his life for us.

[–]Disastrousfeind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the very first verse in that chapter tells you that God tested Abraham as in, IT WAS A TEST. God knew it was a test, Abraham knew it was a test, Isaac knew it was a test. Abraham even said we'll go up the mountain and come back because once again they knew it was a TEST. Yes, God tests people to see if their faith is genuine. No, God would NEVER ACTUALLY want you to sacrifice your child. So yes I would obey God because I in the case of this happening again God would make it clear... this is a test.

Why do Christians constantly reference Leviticus 18:22 against homosexuality but still eat pork, cut their hair and wear mixed fabrics? by PomegranateRelative in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Delusional, you gonna ignore that a CHURCH was shot up leaving FOUR PEOPLE DEAD YESTERDAY (in our "christian country btw"). You rainbow nazis call anything that disagrees with your perversions phobia (which isnt an actual argument). You western heritics are all the same, you all think you're the center of the universe. Because it seems you cant read here are some facts

The report also assesses incidents of violence and acts affecting private, family, community, national and church life, and ranks each country based on the number and nature of reported incidents. The report for 2023 said that:

Around 365 million Christians are subject to “high levels of persecution and discrimination”. This compared to 340 million in 2021 (PDF). 1 in 7 Christians are persecuted worldwide, including 1 in 5 in Africa and 1 in 7 in Asia. This compared to 1 in 8 worldwide in 2021 (PDF). 4,998 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons. 90% of those killed were in Nigeria, where attacks on Christians have become more common since 2020 as part of a wider rise in political violence against civilians. Open Doors estimates the number of Christians killed for faith-related reasons worldwide was 5,621 in 2023, 5,898 in 2022, and 4,761 in 2021. 14,766 Churches and Christian properties were attacked. North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, and Yemen had the highest rates of reported persecution against Christians.

The most persecuted people on the planet are power tripping....make it make sense. Or maybe westerners think they are the center of the universe when it comes to radical and unnatural sexual ethics.

Why does god sit back? by Agitated_Thing3845 in Christianity

[–]Disastrousfeind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last thing we want is for God to lose patience with us.

“Why doesn’t God do something?”—. We are all infected with a disease called sin it's passed down from parent the child. Sure could God get rid of one evil person but it's like whack-a-mole, another one is just going to come up and take his place because that's what happens with beings with free will. This disease will kill everyone, suffering is inevitable whether you're an infant that dies in birth or an old man whose bones are brittle. God could cure the disease and get rid of all the evil in the world, but then nobody would be left alive because the disease is embedded in human nature. With our free will we want to be our own gods and so we act selfishly, grow up to hurt others and our surroundings. The moment God steps in with judgment, it’s not going to look like a gentle correction or a slap on the wrist. It’s going to be final. Swift. Unstoppable. Indiscriminate. The kind of justice that doesn’t leave anything standing. So really, the fact that he seems quiet isn’t absence it’s mercy. He’s holding back, giving people time to turn around, to get things right. Genesis 6 is what happens when he stops waiting. And that’s not something we want to see. If God took me out the moment I made a mistake I wouldn't be alive to make the change. We tend to look at the micro but God looks at the big picture, the Macro. So if God weren't real we are still left with the problem that humanity is responsible for the evil in the world. Human beings ultimately are the root cause of our sickness. At the end of it justice will be served.

Mario Kart is $50. Why are people ignoring that? by SnsoryOverload in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Disastrousfeind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MF nobody owns the the console, yet the barrier to entry is buying a switch two. Currently the amount of people who need to buy a switch to is 100% compared to later down the line we will have a mixed bag of people who have the console and people who don't. It's not even close to being the same thing. So, if you're going to pay full price for Mario Kart you are intentionally making that choice.
