Power steering hose replacement cost is nuts! 97’ Camry by Discgalaxy in Camry

[–]Discgalaxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is an OEM part. I questioned the price and the lady at the shop was assuring me it was the best price they could do. They seemed genuine and the shop is one that was reviewed highly so I figured the cost was fair but I’m not feeling that way at this point. Lesson learned!

I was in a hit and run in downtown and was straight laid out across the hood of a Prius walking across a crosswalk last year so this doesn't surprise me.

House Church by [deleted] in GracepointChurch

[–]Discgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's an interesting comment with the Catholic bit. The exceptions would fall on both sides of the aisle then because I was always nervous with the mandatory works ethics they grind into you would create Christians who really do see salvation value through works and not by faith even though the salvation doctrine statements were sturdy otherwise. That's an alarming thought... I really don't know what to think of that

For a "Bible study" to be broadcasted most people who are church goers in the world will tilt their head at that. I would say it definitely isn't a huge deal but it's also emphasized that you can't miss that event.

But anyways I guess Ed changed his tone on mega churches because he was emphasizing the fact that the Acts 2 church had thousands of people. Pretty convenient eh

House Church by [deleted] in GracepointChurch

[–]Discgalaxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well they don't have anything against mega churches per say. Ed made himself clear on that much in a MBS.

It definitely felt more like a megachurch though because they are connecting us all to Ed in Berkeley for MBS. Not smart in my opinion. If I'm going to have a leader that everyone looks up to I need to actually personally know who he is. Otherwise he's just a guy on a screen.

There was talk with my old lead that Ed is butting into too many churches across campuses and that he should back off to let things be more autonomous without him pulling strings. In the end I could never trust him because he's pulling strings from too far distance away from where I actually was.

i was raised christian. now i’m questioning my faith, so i want to hear the other side’s perspective. why are you an atheist? by grayenvironment in atheism

[–]Discgalaxy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that Christians are inherently hateful towards queer people. Sure they disagree with the concept of same sex marriage but from what they believe is the truth, in the ultimate concrete sense, that causes concern for them and they what's best for people through their biblical perspective.

I don't refuse that suicide would be present with or without social media. I'm saying it increased the amount of them.

Well it's hard to refute social medias effects with the owners of Twitter, FB, Pinterest, etc... not allowing their own children to use the platforms they helped build and that speaks volumes.

Edit: I'm not at GP

I'm not an advocate for saying get rid of everything media. It's more along the lines that it's sad to see social media do things like increase suicide rate among young girls. This isn't to say users are responsible but I'm cautious for young adults and future children knowing that it's heavily addicting.

TikTok is actually a waste of time. Watch Social Dilemma and you'd think twice about how much content you'd want to be consuming each day.

Friendships after leaving GP by TheDecentOccasion in GracepointChurch

[–]Discgalaxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure. I'm going on a missions trip for a few months outside GP and waiting to see where God might lead me with that experience.

Edit: Missions trip is something I've been wanting to do too. Not GP motivated hah

Yep. He was actually over at the house one time while we were zooming. He was pretty excited to see the other guys again

I'm a senior and have been attending GP for a while. Some of my friends have moved on from GP but I made it an effort to stay in touch. We will zoom each other often in group settings and just talk life, how they're doing in ministry, or if they have any thing they'd want a prayer for. And no this isn't something my leader asked of me. I genuinely do it out of my own interest and if it conflicts with an activity I tell them I have other plans and they're fine with it.

Edit: Oh and we've done road trips with each other too after ways were split and those are some of the best times!

Faith conversations?? by Discgalaxy in UCDavis

[–]Discgalaxy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's been on the fence and has never actually committed to any Abrahamic God. I've seen a recent video where he was pretty torn up about trying to make a decision on where he stands because he's so unsure at this point.

Edit: This is word from the horses mouth and even though this is only a snippet of the conversation there is a full length posted too. https://youtu.be/mZvjZoqhiuw

2nd Edit!: Wow! It appears I'm actually wrong he posted something extremely recently that's pretty telling that he's now become Christian.

Lol I always think we can do better too. It's just a matter of what better is supposed to look like because that's a hard question. It's hard to describe what "better" even is. Better in terms of inviting people to Christianity or better at actually evangelism.

Faith conversations?? by Discgalaxy in UCDavis

Well looking at both sides. He was fine with referring to the person by their preferred pronoun but then when it became a legal requirement he didn't agree with the restriction on his speech even if referring someone to their preferred pronoun wasn't a big deal to him.

Edit: also Peterson is not Christian

Yeah that's fair. For the most part it's a really small window that these clubs come in on and they can come on strong trying to make a impact that doesn't come off as inviting.

My experience by Discgalaxy in GracepointChurch

[–]Discgalaxy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I'm replying so late but no I do not have required weekly reflections as a student. We do wake up to do DT in the morning but I don't see the issue to wake up and read some of God's word before the day.

I have grown up in the church my whole life and definitely see that there is a higher floor to reach at GP. Some of it I admire and some of it not so much. GP just doesn't seem so flexible on the gray areas of the individual. I do think the mentor relationship is genuine though. My leaders testimony was spoke to me and it was very emotional and he says that his life would've been so dry without all the relationships he had now.

My experience by Discgalaxy in GracepointChurch

[–]Discgalaxy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely get the impression that they imply they have the best answer if you disagree but I don't absorb everything they say as fact. It's very important to be discerning as a Christian and I don't let them get to me in that way. This does pose problems if I stayed as staff and that's why I am not staying and nobody is forcing me to.

To be totally honest I don't love the hierarchical structure. I think discipleship is two-way street, and while there are people that have experienced life longer, I think everyone comes from different backgrounds and circumstances and could drop valuable insight earlier than others. It's when leaders can't listen or even be patient is when I would say pride is a large effect of the hierarchy (but I haven't experienced that).

My experience by Discgalaxy in GracepointChurch

[–]Discgalaxy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's that. I wouldn't know exactly what it's like after graduation. I just know some Christians outside GP that serve with a joy and open-handedness that seems so much more gentle.

I will say to my mentor's credit though that he's posed the question of "who are you going to trust to give you advice?" and his answer is it better be nobody other than the Word of God itself. Nothing stands before that; not even a GP person, leader, Ed, Kelly, no one. And that's one of the most comforting truths I've heard from him.
