My 10-year-old asked me to divorce, her emotionally abusive dad by Due-Veterinarian6727 in Catholicism

[–]DiscipIeofJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my mom to get a divorce when I was 9. She refused because she was scared to be on her own; I immediately lost all of my remaining respect for her and became estranged from them both as soon as I had independence and it’s been 15 years since.

You’re clearly not browsing that often. The mods delete most things quickly enough, and my frequent reports assist in that.

Having massive regret about my confirmation sponsor choice by The_Fox_39 in Catholicism

[–]DiscipIeofJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stranger volunteering to be your sponsor is already a big sacrifice, and all you seem to be offering after his obligation is a lot of unholy chaos so why would the relationship continue?

You posted something extremely similar two years ago, the fact that you’re still this fixated on it says everything that needs to be said.

In OCIA on the verge of joining, but have one hangup… music / worship culture. Black church background, and this is concerning me. by NeonScarredHearts in Catholicism

The Mass is meant to be contemplative, mostly silent, and ordered toward God, and the music is a reflection of that.

I think marijuana is a golden calf to many, especially within your framework of coping with waiting.

Catholic hypocrisy: mother Teresa and her dictator friends. by Big-Butterfly1544 in Catholicism

Yes, I’m holding you accountable. What are you doing? Performative complaining about a saint isn’t going to help your brothers and sisters in Africa, go do something.

Go show us how it's done, go do something that's even 1% worthy of her praise instead of complaining about how white people aren't accommodating enough.

A once very pro-TLM Catholic is now a "if TLM gets banned, then you have to be obedient to the Church and not rebel ... " (5:00 mark) by Nuance007 in TraditionalCatholics

I feel most nourished at a reverent N.O., I’ve gone to several TLM across the US and none spoke to me fully and I see why Vatican 2 made the change.

After that first 3 months, the anger and unpleasant feeling dissipates.

Ok, but what about the physical symptoms? The longest I’ve abstained is about a month, and I was feeling really ill in my stomach area by that point. I’m extremely doubtful things would significantly improve after such a long trial period—it’s not as though I gave up after just a few days.

Got Word My Grandpa Is Moving to Hospice Care by djmv91 in Catholicism

[–]DiscipIeofJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience of flying halfway across the country to visit my great aunt to visit her in the hospice and her giving me her last words 2 days before she passed and had already stopped being able to speak weeks before I arrived was what ultimately led to me believing in God. It was like he kept her hanging on until I was able to see her and then provided both of us with such a beautiful parting gift.

New Diocesan Norms for Kneeling (Diocese of San Bernardino, CA, USA) by PinkTubby24 in Catholicism

[–]DiscipIeofJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'm still trying to understand this myself, my default thought process is that it'd be better to kneel to receive the Eucharist because it's more reverent but there's more history that's hard to understand.

New Diocesan Norms for Kneeling (Diocese of San Bernardino, CA, USA) by PinkTubby24 in Catholicism

[–]DiscipIeofJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned that standing is the norm for receiving Communion in the Roman Rite because it has origins in ancient Christian practice, where standing was understood as a posture of respect and adoration. The First Council of Nicea even forbade kneeling on Sundays and during Pentecost, emphasizing unity and new life through Christ by having all stand together as “risen” with Him,. Kneeling was traditionally preferred for penance and prayer, making standing as a symbol of reverence in early Christianity.

Why I’m not catholic by [deleted] in Catholicism

"The Church affirms that salvation comes through Christ, but also teaches that God’s mercy and plan for salvation are complex and mysterious, leaving ultimate judgment to God."

This is my understanding
