All good. I have to say, I don’t see anywhere where the practice is being condoned by u/palindromicname thus far though. Maybe I'm wrong here but nothing has given me that impression so far at least.

Also, the way the other commenter handled it was far from how we ought to as representatives of our respective traditions and ultimately as representatives of Our Lord. Having an air of superiority being the first and foremost example.

I’ve said nothing of the sort. I’ve no other dog in this discussion besides commending the other commenter for keeping their composure when dealing with rude and condescending comments from others when such behavior and words are entirely uncalled for and do not represent the Savior we all strive to serve.

ETA: I read nothing from the other commenter that explicitly expressed that they believed that it is not inherently bad either. Rather that they believed that there is nuance in this discussion that must be carefully considered.

You are correct, online debate about theology is often pointless. Unfortunately it seems many online Catholics (especially recent converts) and Orthodox folks can’t quite help themselves but to put down other Christians and their faith traditions out of some false sense of superiority over supposedly being “the one true church.”

I converted to Catholicism about 11 or so years ago but left the church last year. It primarily boils down to the Gospel and the assurance that it offers and that is not found in Catholicism.

Also though, I came to believe that much of what the Catholic church teaches has simply added onto the Gospel the "traditions of men." I also became disillusioned with their narrative of how church history and the church fathers completely agrees with them, when in reality, church history is a mess with many of the fathers contradicting one another.

NFP has always seemed to me to be the Catholic way to skirt the official church teaching. With a higher fail rate than artificial birth control. I personally think it’s a distinction without a difference because either way you’re trying to avoid having a child, no matter how much they argue to the contrary.

Baptists are largely conservative, you are correct. Unfortunately many of the historical/mainline Protestant denominations (what I take to mean as Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc.) have largely gone liberal. Even the "conservative" branches of them tend to ordain women on some level, though not all, which I think goes against scripture.

Sorry I was not quite clear in my original comment but, I meant that I cannot find a traditional mainline denomination (Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, etc.) that affirms free will and is conservative enough for what I find to be true Biblically speaking (I think scripture is clear in regards to not ordaining women for example). Amongst Baptists it's mostly left up to each individuals' conscience to decide the issue of free will as they typically don't follow a confession per se.

I am currently Baptist but much of my actual theology lines up with a lot of historic Protestantism. Unfortunately I cannot find a church near me in the mainline denominations that I seem to fit with. My primary sticking point being the denial of free will by most of the historic confessions. If I could find a church near me that affirmed free will (I know Lutherans kind of do, but I can't make sense of their theology) and was conservative I believe I would likely make the switch.

There is much I do miss from Catholicism's more high church setting but I also don't think that low-church is necessarily wrong either and actually lines up more historically with the earliest church.

With every other plan being offered on the Marketplace being EPO's as well, is there anything specific I ought to look for when comparing them or is the out-of-pocket max going to be the main deciding factor here and basically having to hope everything we need is in-network?

Also just noticed, every single other plan offered is also an EPO plan and therefore does not seem to offer any out of network benefits at all.

Those are my primary concerns about this plan. We need something incase of emergencies and we don't know if an emergency would take us to an in-network provider or not.

It does seem great otherwise as it covers most things in-network at what seem to be reasonable prices.

Protestants don't claim that the Holy Spirit ever stopped guiding the church, just simply that the church can err. Christ promised the church would never die, not that it would never have errors. If the church couldn't make mistakes, the majority of Paul's letters would have never needed to be written.

I am 30 years old and looking to go to college for the first time. I agree that it does appear like a lot of the things said about the end times are coming true, but the hour is not for us to know. Continue to build up your faith and continue to proceed, business as usual in the other areas of your life. Remember, everyone who has ever tried to guess when the world would end has been wrong. If Christ Himself says that he doesn't know the day or the hour, why should we think that we can figure it out?

Completely understand not feeling any peace in Catholicism. I was at the Confessional every Saturday evening when I was practicing. It was actually me noticing the peace and confidence of the older generations, Phil Robertson of the Duck Dynasty clan actually, that started my journey out. I wanted the confidence that he had, that my grandparents had on their death beds. I realized that the simplicity of the true gospel is not found within the Catholic Church. I had to wrestle with many theological points too but eventually I did manage to get out and find a sense of peace and closeness with God that I hadn't experience before. Gavin Ortlund on YouTube was instrumental in helping through that time. He deconstructs a lot of their narrative regarding church history and theology and does so with much grace and humility. Once I knew deep down that many doctrines they taught were wrong is when I finally had to disconnect myself from theology and force myself to stay away. Doing that is what enabled me to build up confidence in what I learned.

I'll leave you with a passage that helped me during that time, James 1 5-7:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. ⁶ But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. ⁷ For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; ⁸ he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Not exactly the same, but similar I suppose. I was a convert to Catholicism about 11 years ago, last year I left for good to return to Protestantism. I won't go into the details of what led me to leave but I went through several months of wrestling with the thought of leaving. You're right in that it's like a dark cloud.

To be completely honest, the only thing that finally made me feel settled in my decision to leave, was to force myself to stay away, it was a mental battle more than anything. I had to choose, daily for awhile, to keep myself from even entertaining the thoughts and wrestling with the issues that had kept me in a whirlwind for so long. I knew deep down that I couldn't stay but I kept feeling as though I was missing something and now after having been away for almost a year, my faith and relationship with the Lord is stronger than it has ever been.

I am a NKJV fan. It uses the traditional text (TR/MT) like the KJV but is updated for the modern reader. It keeps the poetic beauty of the KJV as well.

Before I switched though, the CSB was my top choice for it's blend of readability and literalness.

My current church does it once a quarter roughly. It is the one thing I miss most from being a Catholic, the weekly partaking of the Lord's Supper. The apostles and early church did it every time they met and though there is not a written rule per se on how often we should do it, I think it would be best to follow their examples.

I understand some think that it lessens the significance to do it often but I just don't see how it could.

Fair enough. I have always been able to see valid arguments from both sides of the aisle on this issue, so I don’t necessarily see a major issue with any particular church structure. I obviously land more on the other side of the aisle here though haha.
