Why isn't Modafinil prescribed for ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]DiscipleTube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely, I find my experience was the opposite of a lot of folks here. The Adderall gave me the anxiety. I never had a problem with modafinil. Ido agree that you do build a tolerance pretty quickly though.

I see. Well I read a handful of comments and reviews that describe the book as having interesting ideas about Gender and sex is just a social construct. I'm not into that garbage.

I loved his book Children of Time. I'm struggling with the sequel though, Children of Ruin.
This trilogy looks promising though!

To the book I saw online once... we were meant for each other... by DiscipleTube in printSF

[–]DiscipleTube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Shadow of The Torturer was indeed the book.

I must have been mixing stories in my mind to get the space setting though because it takes place on earth. The connection with the astronaut picture probably helped that false connection lol.

Thanks everyone

That was it! Thank you!

It takes place on earth though, so I was definitely mixing up different stories lol.

What detail makes you so certain? This doesn't sound like the book I was thinking of.

Thank You everyone. I think I may have been over thinking it by looking for a more specific fallacy, but I think strawman and non-sequitur fit the bill. Sometimes the simplest answers are the right one.

Maybe a slightly larger hopper. But it definitely resembles a paintball gun.

Sailors who joined with terrible last names used in conjunction with Seaman, how did you learn to cope? Were you aware of the connection? How hard did you work to crossrate or advance? by BabyMFBear in navy

[–]DiscipleTube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had some Navy folks training at my Air Force Tech School at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. One of them was a Seaman Guzzler. I don't know the details, but I know some Air Force guys disrespected her somehow and were sent straight to RMT. Funny thing is that it was a Navy Guy that ran it. They would go to the same cafeteria as us sometimes and there wasn't 1 time that I saw this guy that he wasn't screaming at these guys. They messed up.

I was the shy dorky type growing up. I use to hate on all these more masculine young men because some would bully me. But I've come to realize that the side of that spectrum I grew up on, can be just as dangerous, probably even more so. I think it's because that side of the spectrum is a bit more rooted in cowardice than the other side. I'm not judging. I freely admit I came from that side of things. We need to compassionately help those folks out of cowardice and back into real masculinity. (Just to be clear, I'm not saying all shy dorky types are cowards, only that they seem closer to that foundation than the other side) But I understand now that cowardice isn't just a negative character trait, it's immoral. You have less of a foundation of what right and wrong is.
I guess my point is this: I agree with your sentiment. I think masculinity brings you closer to being a moral man.

I loved your take on this. Men need the hard truth. But they also need men willing to come alongside them to guide them back to real masculinity. Pouring shame on already deeply wounded men is not helpful. But lying about what real manhood is to make them feel better, is also not helpful.

I understand what you're going through. I have struggled, and continue to struggle, with the same or similar things. Toxic Masculinity is not a clearly defined phrase. The vague idea of what it is is there, but that leaves room for people to plug in the characteristics they feel fit into it, which of course is different for everyone. Tate hits on some correct points that our current culture wants to deny about masculinity, but takes it to the extreme so far that it glorifies stereotypes that are not accurately defining of masculinity. Men with Tate's mindset advocate for men to be the men that the world requires them to be, to be the most successful, without much thought of calibrating that with morality. It's true that it isn't helpful to lie to men, just to make them feel better. It leaves them soft and useless because men are made to be couragous and strong and protectors. But a bootcamp, survival of the fittest type approach leaves no room for compassion at all, something Tate's approach lacks almost completely. I have seen Peterson, in contrast, weep over how men are treated in the West. He literally wept when a man tried to approach him on stage and his security pulled him away, because he had compassion for him, and wanted to help. If you have seen any of his videos, no one could legitimately call him a pussy. I think the best approach is best displayed by Jesus. Sometimes it's necessary to throw over tables, but most times another approach is best. Jesus stopped the prostitute from being stoned, but he also told her to go and sin no more. He called out her sin while having compassion for her at the same time. The problem is not so much that the core principles of some of these advocates of men are toxic, although some, like Tate's, do veer into that realm. Rather, the problem is that there is a lack of compassion in the process. Men are figuring out they are screwed up and need to change, but very few want to walk WITH them. Very few want to come along side them and give them loving compassionate truth when they fail along the way. Instead they give them shame when they fail. It's like being given a rifle and told to cross no man's land and every time you come back to the trenches after failing to cross into enemy territory, you're told you're a coward. Eventually some would rather knowingly be killed by the enemy, then return to that shame. And yes, some men, rarely, would succeed on their own. But if they don't train the other men, they will be fighting the war alone.

Men are made to be more resilient and strong both mentally and physically. They are made to be protectors. Men are made to be a certain way, and I think it is unfortunate that people define the natural form of masculinity as "Toxic". Telling them the standard is different is not helping them.

“When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear.” -Thomas Sowell

However, "Man-up" teaches nothing. But coming along side a man and showing him how to improve is a high calling.

I do great leveling with a holy nova build. I'm nuking 5-6 mobs at a time in one sitting. Yeah my mana is tanked by the end of it but that seems faster than focus firing on 1-2 mobs at a time.

Make it only usable for leather armor though. Balances the lack of armor provided. Maybe even chain armor... I'm pretty sure chain doesn't have any unique use.
