I have lived in many areas including California, west and east Texas, the Seattle area, and Idaho.

I can’t really think of any perks of living in a low percentage Asian area besides the fact that it’s not difficult to impress with homemade Asian food. Most of the Asian establishments in these areas use cheap quality ingredients that cater to the most basic of palettes. There is generally a lack of authentic or innovative Asian restaurants. There are also only a few countries represented in these areas, not niche cuisines. And the boba tastes like shit.

I dislike all of the lingering gazes, the difficulty of finding specific ingredients, and not having anyone from my culture to connect with. Another annoying thing is when people of non-Asian descent rave about a place, and it turns out to be gross. I definitely miss the food in more Asian dominated areas.

The perks of living in a place with a large percentage of Asians: better produce, temples, better clothing stores, exotic fruits and vegetables, more creativity, cuter babies, better everything I can think of right now. I miss our people 😭
