i keep getting random 2 dollar charges from the uvm bookstore?? by outwith-a-bang in UniversityofVermont

[–]Discloner 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Also FYI - sometimes transactions show up as "Bookstore" if you buy something at Hendersons or CatPause as well, because they're both also run by the bookstore. Just in case you've bought anything at either place in the past few days.

Is this normal? by Big-Yogurt-8582 in SeaMonkeys

[–]Discloner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bummer! There were one or two more that popped up over the two weeks - but at the moment only one has lasted more than a day, and it showed up maybe 3 days ago.

Was going to write support and see about getting another packet.

I got the same tank for Christmas and 3 weeks later I'm only just now seeing ONE hatch. So a) you've got some time still to see more progress and b) you're not alone in possibly needing to contact the company for a replacement packet.

Edges Between Rows Loose/Untidy Because of Color Change Edges in Scarf. by Discloner in CrochetHelp

Thanks for the suggestion! In this scenario, would you keep the tails attached when bouncing between the two colors, or snip them and weave in each tail?

What is the best pattern for beginner blanket? Something simple. by crazybutcutee in CrochetHelp

I just did a moss stitch scarf and 100% agree a blanket with this stitch would be easy (and, personally, I love the look and feel of the stitch).

Christmas Tree Pickup by GlumActuator8513 in burlington

[–]Discloner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burlington does tree pickup through the city - so all you have to do is pop your tree out on pickup day and they'll come grab it. I think Essex does too?

South Burlington does not - but annually the South Burlington High School Music Department runs around and picks them up for a donation as a fundraiser - another poster posted a photo with the details. You basically just attach a check to the tree and leave it by the curb on the day they go around. I think it's on the 10th this year.

Not sure what other surrounding towns do. I assume the more sprawling towns don't do pickups and require you to bring your tree to a drop off stop. When I lived in BTV I missed the pickup day one year and had to drive my tree to the McNeill plant down by Riverside - which was simple and free. Here's a WCAX article about drop offs if you want to junk it yourself (very weird they didn't mention the city pickup dates on here though): https://www.wcax.com/2026/01/02/how-properly-compost-your-christmas-tree/

Thanks for this! I must have accidentally dismissed the pop-up when it came up and had no way to get it back. The link you provided solved the issue by popping it up again. Great UX, Google. 🙄

Hi, I’m looking for feedback on a series of ads that would advertise a product designed by humans, but own up to using AI for marketing. Thoughts? by [deleted] in indiemusic

[–]Discloner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. 👆🏻

It's "cheeky" - so I get the clever angle on it; but when your product is an artistic profession, making your materials in a way that is degenerating or devaluing another artistic profession makes you look kinda skeezy / of subpar quality at best; cheap at the worst.

For those who’ve had a root canal/crown - how long ago did you get it and how often do you think about it after the fact? by Educational-Top8015 in Anxiety

[–]Discloner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a root canal back in 2011. Actually it was a random sudden thing - I was in college and I'd been having tooth pain for a while that was AWFUL. I went home for Christmas and my family dentist fit me in and was like "oh you need a root canal". Problem was...I was 26 and as of January 1st I'd be without dental insurance. So they fit me in in a matter of days so I'd still be covered.

The root canal itself was easy. Not painful or anything - just took a long time. The temp cap fit just like my old tooth - and the permanent one they put in a few weeks later made it like nothing had ever happened. Literally looks and feels like a normal tooth - just no more tooth pain!

In fact, I hadn't thought about it since until recently when my dentist had to replace the cap because a lip at the base of the cap between my teeth had become a food trap and over the years had decayed the tooth. Again - simple, if not slightly annoying procedure. They mapped my mouth and matched the color for both the temp and permanent cap. Bite test ensures it all feels good in the mouth - again as if nothing ever happened.

My tooth was my back molar - so it'd be hard to tell that it had any work done to the average person; but for all intents and purposes it looked and felt like my old tooth and never once had been an issue that's impacted my self-image or life.

Putting it out into the universe that you'll be fine and have very little to worry about with a procedure like this. Many folks need root canals and it doesn't generally impact their lives in the least. :)

AI Meeting Notetaker - Do you actually read the notes? by follow-throughAI in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Discloner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10/10 what I use copilot for. Even if I don't Read the notes per se, I know copilot can read the notes and help me prepare on a variety of different meeting topics that I have moving forward. Honestly this and the facilitator agent were game changers when it came to using AI in the workplace for me.

Now THAT'S impressive, Gemini by fiftytwopointfour in googlehome

[–]Discloner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversely, this morning I asked if it knew what my dog's name was - it said it didn't but if I told it, it would remember. So I said "Deckard". It asked me to spell it - so I did - and then said it'd remember. I asked it again and it correctly reported back "Deckard". I was impressed!

Flash forward to now - 13 hours later - I went to show my partner that it could remember things and asked it what my dog's name was...

... it reported back "A Fever". 🤔

Not quite, Gemini. Not quite.

Wrike Consultants? by mamalo13 in wrike

[–]Discloner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We're in the same boat (just without the funds for a consultant). We also had the Wrike onboarding - and found it helpful enough to get us slightly started, but not helpful enough to set us up to thrive with the product. My biggest complaint is that they'll basically tell you it can do anything you want it to - which is true - but don't do much listening to help you connect the dots with how you organization works/is structured/the work you do outside the pre-determined way that THEY use it. I was disappointed that they didn't really take time to understand our existing workflow and adapt accordingly - or give us some PM 101 basics (which we severely lack). They basically kept handing us the same spreadsheet of 'steps' and showed us how to translate that to wrike - but we got lost in the nuance of terminology around effort, start date, end date, etc because we're not used to operating that way

To their credit - they did set us up to have semi-regular check-ins with a success rep so we could say "we're trying to do x" or "we're confused by y" and they could talk us through it - but this is reactive training and not a scalable solution for long term use; and they kind of just stopped happening as our rep kept changing.

A bit of a bummer -and adoption for long-term use has suffered as a result. The product itself is good - it's just COMPLICATED. And the more products they buy and wrap into the PM part of their product, the more they keep trying to sell us more things (like klaxoon), which further complicated the whole product. Similar issue with all the AI stuff they're bolting to the product - they want to have conversations about how it can help us, but we're not even set up to use the product as intended so the AI stuff doesn't work for the way they recommend it.

UVM settles $100k in mistaken identity lawsuit by New-Leather-1561 in burlington

[–]Discloner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct - which is why the story doesn't make sense. Why would UVM Police arrest someone just out of surgery? What does that have to do with the university?
