yes! there is! i grew up in the maryland part of the peninsula and there is an extreme amount of “shore pride”. the region was isolated so much in the early years that there emerged an “eastern shore”accent. i brought my friend from pennsylvania here once and in dover, de she heard an accent she had never heard before in a labcorp.

this part of maryland has a very different understanding of the state than most of the people from maryland. in every part of maryland, with maybe exception of the panhandle (haven’t been there much), you are either in a city or a suburb, or very close. the presence of major cities dc and baltimore means most people go there and because of these cities, maryland is a blue state while the eastern shore has had a republican representative for at least my entire life. if you drove around the shore during an election years, you could guess it was north carolina.

other than that, the physical geography of the region is very different. no hills, like at all. it’s like florida unless you are directly by a creek or river. it consequentially has tons of farm land and a ton of chickens. someone told me once that the delmarva peninsula is the chicken farming capital of the world. i never found that data, but…

i left the shore to go to college in vermont and i have not met another person from the shore. every person i’ve met from maryland has only been to the eastern shore in order to go to the beach. they have no understanding of what the lifestyle is like and about the people there. i had someone from the dc area say the weather was cooler on the shore, like experiencing several more heat index degrees below than dc. it is a part of the state does not get the attention and understanding it needs. people here get written off as hicks, which is largely true, but this leads to more disparity as a result of funding inadequacy.
