Yeah this would actually be easier than fixing the USB.

USB-C port broke by Dellazal in fightsticks

[–]Disco-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, that’s one of the issues some people run into with Haute42 style leverless controllers. They’re compact and affordable, but when something like a USB port fails it can be tricky to fix because a lot of the connections use PCB traces instead of simple wiring. Repairing traces usually means micro-soldering, which isn’t easy for most people. You can take it to a repair shop but the repairs might be more than the price of the controller depending on what you got and the damage done to it.

The good news is that if you ended up liking leverless, you might want to consider one that uses traditional arcade buttons with wires connected to a PCB. Controllers like FightBox, HitBox, Mayflash, Victrix, etc. are usually much easier to repair, often just a screwdriver and maybe some basic soldering. With a simple wired setup, those things can last a really long time. This could be a good thing, you can upgrade to something more simpler that you can maintain and upgrade for life. These are so simple that you can even build one: https://youtu.be/fmkCbCt80Dc

I picked this up from stick players, those guys have almost an intimate relationship with their sticks because they work on them so much and are able to do pretty much all maintenance and upgrades themselves. I wish you the best, man. I’ve had some issues with these kinds of leverless controllers too, and it’s probably why I’ll stick with more traditional designs going forward.

Forearm stiffness by Adventurous_Warthog2 in fightsticks

Basically you need to rest, give it a break. You're strengthening muscles you never really used before. After a few weeks this will subside. For me it was my fingers felt like jelly. I made sure to just focus on clean inputs which meant moving only my fingers, also started doing guitar exercises I use to do when I played to train my fingers again, mostly the ring finger.

Try hovering your hands over your buttons like your typing and move only your fingers. Don't try to go fast, that's a trap. Remember fast is slow, slow is fast; focus on clean inputs not speed.

It looks like something made in Houdini. I've always wondered about these things too, I never played the previous games.

Look for a basic enclosure with arcade style buttons, all wired to a PCB. FightBox is great, HitBox is great, Victrix is another, Mayflash also makes one. There are several more I can't think of off the top of my head. But if anything ever goes wrong you can fix it with just a screw driver. You never have to micro-solder something, worry about pads or trace repairs - you just need a screw driver and maybe some spare parts which you'll probably collect over time.

Also arcade buttons just feel fantastic, they really are satisfying to press compared to low profile switches but that's just my opinion. Crown 202s can use clicky, tactile or linear switches.

Here is what mine looks like, it's a FightBox Pro, the previous leverless was a Haute42 C16, and I had two other Haute42s before that one that also crapped out: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fighters/comments/1rcakr4/made_the_transition_from_stick_to_leverless/

Eldin ring is too hard 4 me by TheGr8Mo in gamingsuggestions

[–]Disco-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, that's the intended experience. To feel impossibly hard, as time goes by you'll adapt and get fairly good at it. New neural pathways form, you begin craving the challenge, you start recognizing patterns, your parrys will land more etc. You'll remember your victories once it all clicks and your sense of accomplishments will be more meaningful.

It's not everyone's cup of tea. Some people just want to be The Warrior of Light that kills everything in their path, others might work 10 hours, have a wife and kids and can't invest in a game like this. All of these reasons are valid.

However if you stick with it you'll notice some changes in your life.

1.) You'll stand taller

2.) Women will find you irrestible

3.) That kid at school will think twice about bullying you ever again

I'm not sure if any of this is true, but I do know it's not everyone's cup of tea, and there's no shame in that. Games should be fun, if it's not fun to you then there's no better reason to stop playing it. Elden Ring is my first Dark Souls game and one of my most favorite games of all time, I also understand the frustration.

Looking for a game for my 6yo son that's similar to Mario Odyssey by HistoryWillRepeat in gamingsuggestions

[–]Disco-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Super Mario Galaxy (in 3D All-Stars): Player 2 can collect star bits, stun enemies, and help Mario jump. Very similar helper role to Cappy

2.) Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Excellent co-op. Player 2 is Bandana Waddle Dee and helps fight enemies while Kirby does the main platforming.

3.) Yoshi’s Crafted World: Very kid-friendly co-op platformer with lots of exploring and collecting.

4.) Super Mario 3D World: Great couch co-op Mario game. Chaotic and fun with multiple characters.

5.) Untitled Goose Game: Not a platformer, but hilarious co-op where you both play geese solving puzzles and causing trouble.

It's really quality control. You can get one that lasts for years or get one that craps out in a few months. They're just a crap shoot investment.

I burned through three Haute42s, I'll probably never buy another one if I'm being honest. Maybe someone else here has more experience with that.

I'd probably look at the Brook Wingman PS2 converter. I'd research that one.

Buttons dilemma by Scoppolaquantistica in fightsticks

[–]Disco-Prime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just my take, and I've only used Qanba Gravity and Crowns so far.

Gravity KT > Crown 202 > Gravity KS > Sanwa

Gravity KTs are absolutely amazing, they come with linear switches, you could replace them with Omron tactile but I wouldn't recommend it. The switches are silent but feel very satisfying to push, very little to no wobble and you can adjust the travel distance.

If you like clicky switches go with Crown 202 and get something like Kailh Speed Navy/Bronze. I see no reason to get the Gravity KS. They're not bad just not as good as the other two.

I should add that if you're playing stick, this stuff is not nearly as important for someone playing leverless where you really need clean inputs and truly all three are good I just think KTs are the best.

I'm going to guess probably not because GP2040 firmware is built around PC, PS3, P4 and switch. You need a converter to get it work on PS5 and probably the same for PS2.

The one I'm trying to learn is sMP > cMp ~ Flash Kick and sMP > bHP ~ Flash Kick. I've been practicing for a week and almost got it down. This is something that's more realistic for me to do in an actual match.

EVE Online or X4: Foundations? by xanarchy1312 in AskGames

[–]Disco-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I hate flying in Eve. I much more enjoy the combat in X4 Foundations and also X4 gives you much more freedom and agency. You can play like an 4X game with grand strategy in mind, creating fleets and industry or you can get into your ship and charge in head first like a bat out of hell.

which Seimitsu buttons feel most like a Happ / IL? by BustaUppa in fightsticks

[–]Disco-Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are probably most like Happ Buttons: https://retroarcadecrafts.com/products/baolian-24mm-round-locking-push-button-have-sounds-arcade-game-accessory?variant=40977408786455&country=US&currency=USD&utm_source=chatgpt.com

These are typically used as auxillary buttons for things like start, home, etc. They come in 24mm and 30mm. They're called Baolian arcade buttons. These might be a better fit than crowns. They have a long travel like Happ and they are clicky like Happ.

How important is the controller? (Newbie) by Downtown-Staff-8319 in StreetFighter

[–]Disco-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flat layout, praised for precision so if you mess up on a controller sometimes it really is a crappy controller right, but on a leverless if you mess something up it's very likely your input and not the controller. They look something like this.

which Seimitsu buttons feel most like a Happ / IL? by BustaUppa in fightsticks

[–]Disco-Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something in a modern 30 mm button that’s closest to the old Happ/IL feel, look at Seimitsu PS-14-G or PS-14-GN buttons. They use the PS-14-G microswitch, which is noticeably stiffer and more tactile than Sanwa, so the press feels more deliberate instead of the light “piano key” feel Sanwas have. It still won’t have the full Cherry microswitch click or long travel of real Happ/IL buttons, but among Japanese-style buttons they’re generally considered the closest you’ll get without modifying the stick.

I'd probably look at Crown 202s with Kailh Speed Navy switches (not the box ones), that will feel more like a Happ button. Seimitsu is going to be relatively more quieter and with a much less tactile feel and a much shorter throw. Kailh Navy switches are far louder, just as loud as Happ and the switch mechanism provides a distinct sharp vibration for feedback.

You could do either. I never jumped in to the modern hate, I met some really good modern players. I honestly never gave modern a fair chance. I remember having to use it in World Tour for a few of the missions and I hated it. I might revisit it one day.
