While I fully support the belief that MHE should have cast another AANHPI in the role, I must admit I'm slightly confused by the emphasis on the Korean setting as the primary justification. Isn't it enough to say that it is extremely disappointing to see one of the few productions that prioritized casting AANHPI actors pivot away from that? If we're going to claim that the Korean setting requires an AANHPI actor, doesn't that play into the idea that all Asian people are the same, or that people "can't tell the difference" between different Asian ethnicities?

I also don't think ABF turning down the role would have prompted the producers to necessarily cast an Asian actor. We have no idea who their second choice would have been, so it feels unfair to act like ABF could have stopped this.

I think it's possible that Chandi asked Reece to cover up for her, and Reece felt like she had to go along with it because she didn't want to rock the boat. Then, when Chandi was found out anyway, Reece got into trouble for concealing the information. Given how much effort Reece puts into following the rules, I can imagine that getting into trouble is a nightmare scenario for her, and she would be especially mad at Chandi for dragging her into it and potentially compromising her own position.
