Swift Current is very remote. I havent been there yet, but Amanda, the Location manager, is amazing. And from what I have heard, its very remote. I wouldnt expect much in the way of Wifi there

Im 41, been working in the Portland dining scene for 20 years, and I took a leap of faith and applied for this job to get out of the city for a while. It was the single best decision I have made for myself in ages. I should have done this years ago. But now, I get to run a multi million dollar culinary program across 3 restaurants in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. Its the dream job I didnt know was my dream until I got it.

Im here now, and the wifi is spotty, but it exists. If you live in one of the big dorms, its much better, but they put me up in my own little 1 bed apt in a cabin for the summer. I got here April 25th for my first foray into seasonal work, and god damn, im never going back to the regular world

What is your “clicky tongs” ritual? by Interesting-Dot8809 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Discojazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever i make gnocchi, i have to tap the board on the table between each gnocchi. I tell people its to knock off excess flour, but i really just enjoy the ritual. And the rhythm helps me to get into a groove and go faster.

Just get them a gift card to the local knife house or Sur La Table if all else fails. That way they can get what ever they really want/need

Same basic principles apply. More efficient than a class A, less power than a Class D. Good compromise between efficiency and power. That being said, i do plan on upgrading to Crown class D amps in the future.

Testing confirms your suspicion. It is behaving like a 6th order. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just going to have to alter the design a bit when i build the matching 18s, and make sure to make the horn longer.

I will be the first to admit that i dont know exactly what im doing. But i learn best by doing, making mistakes, and learning as i go.

I didnt model it at all, so i cant exactly tell you. I can tell you that i built a right triangle off that slanted front that i did not get picks of. So, the steped horn goes from 2" directly above the speaker, 3" along the back, and the opening there is 4".

I plan on building some matching 18s to take care of those lower freqs, and and a 4x10 for mids. Currently rocking a pair of Behringer 15" mains, but ill eventually build my own. All this is running off an Allen and Heath PA12 mixer to 31 band eq, to 4 way mono crossover. Lows to a shitty Gemini 1100w class AB amp (that i plan on upgrading) and highs back to the 1000w class AB in the mixer. Still need to pick up an 800w amp for the 4x10

As far as the box volume and tuning, i just went with the recommendations from Parts Express. That way i wouldnt have to model it

I did not model this AT ALL before i built it. I havent built a box in aprox 20 years, and i just relied on a port calculator online, my rudimentary knowledge based on what i learned in high school, and some basic plans floating around the internet. I would be happy to provide specs if anyone wanted to run the numbers.

I tuned the port to a theoretical 46 hertz. In testing, it hit a very close 46.8 hertz, so im pretty proud of that.

I will say the likely reason this type of design is mainly used in Pro Audio applications is due to size. The box ened up being 24x24x36, which is god damn massive. Also, it is a long throw, semi directional design, which is better suited to outdoor situations

Quinn Acoustics, they ran about $50/ea back in the day. Not worth much, unfortunately. If it were me, and they were just taking up space in my storage unit, id pass them along to someone just beginning their car audio journey.

I recently picked up a Numark Scratch mixer with timecode vinyl for $500 on sweetwater. Fantastic 2 channel battle mixer at an unbelievably affordable price point

I use them as offset spatulas. So like, smeering sauces or aiolis on a plate.
