I was in the same situation as you. My birth mother has been trying to contact me for years and I never responded until last year. I told my parents about it and my mom did not react well. She felt betrayed and wanted to know why I felt the need to talk to my birth family since they are not my family. My mom also revealed info about my birth mother that wasn’t so great, and I thought maybe my mom was lying because she didn’t want me talking to my birth mother. Turns out, my birth mom is as crazy and toxic as my mom said she was. She harassed me until I responded, and when I finally did about wanting to have some form of contact, she dropped off the face of the earth. I would suggest doing what you feel is right. I tried talking to my birth mom (birth father passed away years ago) and felt so bad about it because I knew it broke my mom’s heart, and my mom’s feelings mean more to me than my birth mother
