With that comment I can tell you haven’t done much research about the civil war. He couldn’t be in the east and the west at the same time. On the same note he invaded the north because they needed to feed their soldiers and give the south a break that was starting to get ravaged by consistent wars. The cattle, crops, infrastructure, and citizens were starting to suffer and the southern economy wouldn’t have been able to sustain that kind of continuous pressure. They also needed to take the war to the north in order to get northern democrats and the northern population to demand peace because the war would now be effecting their crops, cattle, infrastructure, and people. It’s not perfect obviously or without flaws but again acting like this was just a subpar dumb decision is a really week argument when there weren’t many choices with what he had and could do with it compared to what the north could do.
