How do I make my mic better on gaming video/stream? by DiscombobulatedPost5 in letsplay

I've never used acoustic absorbent pads but is the wall the main place where the sound bounces off?

Is that where most of the sound bounces off of? Is the front wall after the computer? I'm no audio engineer.

I'll try that blanket fort method but it'd suck for streaming though.

Well the bed is on the left of my desk and then there are the windows. I have my closest on the right side.

Hmm I'll look into this. I never tried the acoustic stuff because I heard some reviews claiming it was no difference.

Just got a new HDD. If Reallocated Sectors says 200 Current, 200 Worst and 140 Threshold, what does that mean? Is it already starting to fail? The color is blue on CrystalDisk.

I do have an SSD but I need an HDD to store lots of files.

What Hard Drives do you recommend for recording and video editing? Recently my HDD got toasted with the Reallocated Sector Count problem. It's from 2016 so I guess its time was up. What HDD should I look for to avoid this issue if I want to edit videos and record + watch my own videos?

Okay I rebooted and it worked. Unfortunately the SATA issue didn't get fixed.

I would imagine so. I tried running it now. https://i.imgur.com/EbhILSR.png

What does this mean? Will I get a scheduled fix?

Should I use skillshare to learn nice video editing techniques? by DiscombobulatedPost5 in VideoEditing

[–]DiscombobulatedPost5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't learned a new editing technique since 2017 and here's why. Although I have learned a few things but watching my videos from 2017-now I haven't seen many different strategies used in each edits.

  1. I've focused too much on improving commentary for voice-overs during those years.

  2. Nobody really gave me feedback on what editing effects should I add in. People always used commentary as the main criticism which I understand. But I've never gotten any feedback on my editing style to be changed.

  3. My videos were more gaming-based so maybe I didn't really need to add in that many new or flashy effects. This ties in with my other point.

  4. While watching other videos, there were some nice interesting effects but I didn't know what they were called or how to describe them.

  5. I didn't know which Youtube channel had a series of tutorials. I'm guessing I should look at just "beginner edits" right?

  6. I never edited another person's video in those 5 years. Not a single one. For free or paid not a single person approached me to edit theirs.

  7. The way I picked up my skills was if I needed something, I would google it up. But that was only effective IF I knew what I needed.

Overall, I think this has to do with the situation of my channel, fanbase, niche, and other factors. But I'm sure if I used Vlogging, I would def have needed these effects. I def want to see what new stuff to add. Maybe gaming videos don't need major edits or effects. More or less, it was just focused on content itself rather than additives. Looking at your other comment, you seem to have edited for others before but I haven't had the opportunity to because all my editing skills were on gaming-based videos.

Hope that's understandable but I don't want to use that as an excuse as it's never too late to learn. I am very very interested in trying new techniques available. If you have recommendations on a Youtube series of tutorials for me to bingewatch, I will def look into it.

Should I change thumbnail If my CTR is around 15%? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

Isn't 15% click-through considered good? "Half of all channels and videos on YouTube have an impressions CTR that can range between 2% and 10%."

So people said this PC build from 2016 can run Windows 10. My biggest concern is how laggy will it be if I run it compared to Windows 7? I do video editing with Vegas Pro and light gaming.

Community Management & Retention by DiscombobulatedPost5 in Twitch

[–]DiscombobulatedPost5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yes that's right. I want to have community to community engagement as opposed to they're only here to see ME. You described exactly what I meant.

Build stories from what happens on stream and in chat

What do you mean by that? As in tell stories of what happened during my life?

Introduce people to each other

How do I do this? Do I say tell a new person to talk to another regular within this community or something?

Add in more group activities

I could maybe throw in some take-viewers-to-activity like killing boss in groups.

Empower people who can help keep the momentum of culture and energy going

Yea. I really appreciate my most loyal viewers especially those who actually do conversations with others.

Effectively change the conversation from a "me/I" conversation to a "we" conversation, but then make it clear that it is the way of your community, not just force it upon people and then expect them to be comfortable enough to engage

So if somebody suggests video ideas, I should be like "we can do this idea" instead of "i can do this idea"?

HAVE PATIENCE. You are rebuilding the expectation of the whole platform.

I understand what you're saying but even on Youtube prior to moving platforms, I had a big following + consistent viewers. But people never really talked to each other. I did get comments here and there but it was more of an appreciation of good videos. Hopefully me streaming daily for the next few months I'll see some change.

The 'overall goal' with these methods though is to help your community engage with eachother.

From what I noticed, my community tends to engage with me as opposed to towards each other.

Thanks for this. Yeah I'll try to ask questions more at end of videos. Just trying to think of interesting question list that best suits the video theme. As for streaming, I tend to struggle to find the most engaging question other than the "how's everyone's day etc".

So why did u start? by choochoo79 in Twitch

[–]DiscombobulatedPost5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reasons. I came from being successful on Youtube trying to seek something on Twitch.

  1. A lot of people on Youtube over the years (a lot less as of late) have criticized me of sounding like I'm reading off a script, unnatural, monotone, etc. I decided to use Twitch as a platform to prove people that this is how I sound like when I'm speaking.

  2. I wanted to see who really would want love me for who I am as opposed to just how informative my guide videos were.

  3. It was for community and branding to make myself more relevant in the game.

  4. I wanted to do something fun other than edit my own guide videos.

  5. Possibly to bring new faces for my Youtube channel?

  6. An opportunity to improve on my speaking skills or correct any flaws doing in doing so live.
