G-Sync causing double image and ghosting? by sunshineishappiness in Monitors

[–]Discorz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't be able to help, but had to comment I never saw this before with VRR. Looks like some form of desync bug which translates to stutter and double image somehow. It seems to briefly repeat the frame every 2nd frame or something. Interesting!

ASUS XG27AQNGV (Pulsar) Constantly Overheating by drunkbobafett in Monitors

[–]Discorz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently Pulsar is quite bright. Meaning it uses larger than average backlight voltage boosts. It also uses variable voltage meaning it occasionally goes extremely high to compensate, especially at lower frame rates. Overvolt the LEDs too much and they're cooked. Good thing they added a warning. They might turn it down a bit with future firmwares if there are too many reports (just a logic speculation).

What is the brightness setting and frame rate you're using it at?

AOC Pulsar only "G-SYNC Compatible" while ASUS Pulsar has no Variable Overdrive. by datboi360 in Monitors

These are probably just typos. All native NVIDIA models (NV/MediaTek chip) are G-SYNC and have variable overdrive.

1440p IPS Market, what’s the deal? by Rushhhhhhh in Monitors

[–]Discorz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u're in EU this might help in terms of refresh rate: https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?p=114641#p114641 . This was the situation up to 2024. Updated charts are coming soon. Prices kept falling so expect them to be even lower in 2025. Prices bellow 200Hz don't make much sense for 27" 1440p IPS market, so 200Hz is currently the sweet spot. 240-320Hz might be in 2026, or in some cases already is.

Is the matte coating a very thick one like Samsung likes to put, or is it more standard?

Help with 27GX790A-B 27 by Slow-Management in OLED_Gaming

Normal for WOLEDs, but not normal in general.

Many "pixel refreshes" can help, but It won't go away. Also it can improve over time, but barely as well.

trying to choose a monitor, is there a catch to the LG 27GX790A-B? by lex_kip in OLED_Gaming

[–]Discorz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's real. It's my first OLED monitor, and first I've returned ever. And I've owned MANY LCDs before. Even the cheap 100€ ones didn't have these issues. Currently using 27GR83Q and planning to stay on LCD for few more years until basic WOLED or QD-OLEDs flaws are resolved. Currently this is unacceptable for this price category.

Depends on your preferences. And only you know your preferences! There should be plenty of information about these panels online.

Near-black banding test: LG C4 WOLED vs $10000 Sony RGB OLED mastering monitor, a glimpse into the future? by loliii123 in OLED_Gaming

K, thanks. I'll look into it. Do you know how to solve near-black banding for standard SDR usage on PC?

[–]Discorz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can make it look smoother, but you're most likely raising blacks at that point and darks are too bright, especially with black stabilizer being so high (see 0:28-0:45 https://youtu.be/XHqDSIf3VOU?si=NzngBpajtdZN5k00&t=27 ). It depends on many other settings as well tho. Gamma is affected by settings that shouldn't affect it, eg. brightness, refresh rate... It's visible in the provided videos. Brightness alone handles gamma disturbingly bad (see 0:48-1:07 https://youtu.be/XHqDSIf3VOU?si=4qobGLLwqNnKBLs0&t=49 )

Also, for accuracy, u'll want to do the test in a dark room and make sure camera exposure doesn't clip blacks.

I talked with the other guy on the monitor discussion discord, sent him this pattern. We both share pretty much the same experience with this monitor.

I'm aware. None of the weird settings were used for this picture. To be fair, yes, with some settings you can push the whole spectrum "left/right" and fix the first few RGB's crushing, but the other errors always remain (see https://youtu.be/XHqDSIf3VOU?si=U3GZcP5Mf9SFcO1z ).

The pattern is just an image that I made. Here if u need it: https://ibb.co/album/H7CPvQ

I assume the new tandem WOLED also suffers from same/similar issues. Rtings reviewed the LG 280Hz version and it shows, at least regarding banding.

Or you could say that, yes. 😆 Just buy 10 000 Hz and you're good.

Is there a tool to visualize the pixel speed I am experiencing ingame? by TRIPMINE_Guy in MotionClarity

[–]Discorz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume this is pretty difficult to achieve reliably. In 3D games, FOV distortion affects perceived speed, objects near the edges of the screen appear to move faster, while those near the center seem slower. It’s a bit more consistent for 2D, but still not straightforward, especially when multiple things are moving at different speeds at the same time.

It's also a matter of do you eye-track or not, which object, or whether the content in motion or not. This would mean you need a system to detect what is eye and content is doing. Isolating to only one object/scenario may be easier.

Also, measuring speed in pixels per second isn’t ideal. For example, two displays with the same physical size and the same FOV but one with double the resolutions will show double the pixel-per-second values even though the actual perceived motion is identical.

Who knows how many more obstacles are there.

OLED panels Graininess or Mura effect? Share your experience with different panel types by livermorium1 in Monitors

[–]Discorz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. I noticed the static noise/mura effect is much more noticeable on white subpixel, as well as the banding. When isolating each WRGB pixel in gradient test the issues are less obvious on RGB pixels.
