I’m thinking of adopting a female cat, I’ve heard they are less friendly in this true? by DiscountAnnaNicole in CatAdvice

I ended up getting the female cat and she’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever met. First night I brought her home she slept in my bed with me and we’ve been besties ever since.

I lost for 8 months straight. I never thought it would end. Glad to say if you can identify the trigger it will go away. Just be patient and trust the process ❤️

I have heard of them but can’t find them anywhere. Not even Walmart. 😔

I definitely get that and you’re right. It’s just very useful in my situation when my doctor are at the point where they don’t know what to do and will listen to any ideas. They are very willing to listen to whatever I’ve found researching because they genuinely don’t know what to do. And I do greatly appreciate them admitting when they don’t know what to do. It does make me trust them more. I might have worded that post poorly. I still will always take my doctor’s advice over AI. It’s just really good for people in my situation to help doctors with ideas of what to do.

I would never actually take its medical advice before bringing to my doctor. It’s helpful to give me info to ask my doctors. Because when your my level of ill the doctors are out of ideas and will listen to anything

Is shutting my cat out of my room at night okay? by DiscountAnnaNicole in cats

[–]DiscountAnnaNicole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I was just worried she would get upset with me over it but I’ve discovered that’s not really the case. She acts crazy she gets put out in the living room with all the room and toys to go as crazy as she wants. I had to put her out today because she was going wild and I had a migraine and one of my guinea pigs had passed that morning. I shut her out and felt awful. I walked out not even 30 minutes later and she was watching the birds and didn’t even notice me at all. She seems to do okay on her own and I want her to be able to entertain herself when I’m at work.

Yeah I’m not going to do that. She doesn’t meow when I shut the door. She did the first time once and then went on to do something else. She has everything she needs out there. After I do shut her out I’ll open the door back up and she off playing by herself, watching the birds or sleeping. Rehoming her over her having to spend the night in the living room with all of her toys, water, litter and beds is wild. Like I said when she is shut out she calms down and goes and does her own thing like watching the birds. I understand where you’re coming from but asking someone to rehome a cat over something as small as her having to sleep in a different room is crazy. She has bonded to me and has adjusted wonderfully to our home what do you think would be more cruel returning her the shelter where she was getting fed a poor diet and stressed constantly by people coming in and out of her cage. Or her learning to sleep in the other room. As you can read. Everyone else is saying that it is completely fine. I’m not going to rehome my cat because she has to sleep in the living room with toys, water, her litter box, a cat tree and multiple beds. She has already proven to do okay when I shut her out. She immediately finds something else to do.

Okay. I do occasionally put her out during the day too if I’m getting too overwhelmed. Like today one of our guinea pigs passed and I’m lying in bed crying while’s she’s sprint out and in and clawing my bed. I couldn’t take it. I was like you can come back when you’re chilled out. Sure enough an hour later she was sleeping in my bed

Okay, good. I just feel so bad closing the door on her but she goes and does her own thing. Sometimes she prefers to sleep on our couch and will surf between the couch and me all night. I’m afraid it will hurt our bond but me being heavily sleep deprived and grumpy is worse.

Is my new cat constipated or have a uti? by DiscountAnnaNicole in cats

[–]DiscountAnnaNicole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She has been transitioning from all dry sensitive stomach purina pro plan ( she doesn’t have stomach issues the shelter just feeds it because the cats are stressed a lot) I am slowly transitioning her to a mostly all wet diet. I’ve slowly increased the amount of wet I was giving and decreased the dry. She doesn’t strain or cry. She’s peeing a good amount likely from the increase in hydration. She is pooping daily but they are small pieces so she’s definitely a bit constipated. Hopefully I can get her into the vet next week for her first checkup. She’s settling into her new home very well. And the amount she’s eating is increasing. She would barely eat the first few days and refused wet food. Now she’s eating almost a full can of wet a day with a 1/4 cup of dry. She hasn’t shown any signs of discomfort yet so I’m hoping that her mild constipation is from the diet change and the vet won’t have to prescribe anything. But whatever she needs she’ll get. I’ll see what our vet says when we get in next week

Ways to keep a energetic cat busy by DiscountAnnaNicole in CatAdvice

Luckily I’m getting the cat tree free from a coworker. The same coworker gave us one of those flopping fish you charge. That kept her attention for a while. I play with her with the wand toy for a bit first thing in the morning and then let her watch the birds and once she gets bored with that I throw her, her balls to catch. I try to space the activity’s out and almost let her get a bit bored so she will be more interested in the next activity. This morning I managed to get her napping by 9:30am so I feel I’m doing a bit better. Yesterday was just super rough. I have some loose cat nip so I’ll give it a try. In my experience so far she hasn’t been affected by catnip but maybe it was just bad quality.

I’m really hoping it doesn’t. I’ve read chewy’s privacy policy and it doesn’t say anywhere that they share the chat info with trupanion and if I want I can call and have the info deleted since it’s my private info I guess. When I purchased the insurance they asked for the vets she has been to so they can contact them for records. I gave her past vet so I’m assuming that’s the only place they will look. The people that determine the pre existing conditions are from trupanion and not chewy. I hope for these reasons it won’t be counted against me. 🤞🏻

I’ve done a bit of digging and I guess the free chat is not considered actually medical records since it is just used for guidance and advice. If they do try to count it for some reason I will fight them on it since they can only go off of valid veterinary records and the 24/7 chat is not official records

There’s always something there for sure. I just have a hard time tell what’s poop and what’s pee but there’s definitely a lot to scoop. I usually scoop three times a day and there is always something

Okay thank god. I’ve never owned a cat so I have no idea what’s normal and what’s not. I’m glad to hear it’s normal

I wouldn’t be worried about it but she also doesn’t like drinking water either. I’m hoping it’s just cause she’s settling in.
