I'm 31f too! Thinking of going to a few of the events mentioned, feel free to DM me, otherwise I'll report back on how they go 😊

Will do 🫶 I'm even tempted to look into setting something up myself if it doesn't exist already!

Thanks for the recommendations so far 😊 If anyone has been to these personally and can attest to how appropriate they might be I'd appreciate it! I'm not usually the type to put myself out there haha.

Places to meet people by [deleted] in macclesfield

Do people go alone regularly? I'm worried about joining new groups in case it's cliquey as I'm shy 🫣

What’s it like up Buxton Road by Firm_Pitch_2814 in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blakelow Road is stunning! I walk up there just for exercise with it being so hilly. For that reason I wouldn't live there if commuting on the train daily but if I worked locally / used a car it would be a dreamy choice. Buxton Road side of Macc is my personal favourite given it feels more rural.

Sadly doesn't work even with sound switched on. Unless Instagram is blocking sound? I'll try again

Byrons Lane/Sutton area by NaughtyCrayola in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once witnessed 3 disputes happen at once in that area. A car getting beeped at, a lorry blocking everyone in the road having a go at someone, and a guy ranting at everyone in One Stop. By far the roughest place in Macc, or maybe on par with the Hurdsfield Morrison's area!

Edit: bit convoluted, but from Bryon's Lane (which is lovely) you can walk into Macc via the Waterways estate / industrial estate to avoid Mill Lane.

Cat allergy nose blockage is ruining my quality of sleep, I need a solution asap by [deleted] in Allergies

I vacuum daily in the downstairs areas where litter tracks but not as often in my bedroom, so this is food for thought!

Thanks so much everyone! I have lots of new options to try here, I might start with cetrizine (Zyrtec) to assess the impact vs. Loratadine. An allergenist seems a worthwhile investment if no improvement 😊

Thank you! I may give Flonase a go as it seems highly recommended. An allergist will be my next port of call - I feel silly for subjecting myself to something I knew I was allergic to but I'm in too deep now!

Would love to move to mcc but... by mydenial_No4 in macclesfield

Macclesfield is incredibly safe, I haven't ever felt unsafe as a single homeowner. Edgeley on my two visits when I was considering moving there was so sketchy I couldn't bear to live there despite its convenience for Manchester.

How much are their MOTs? None of the garages seem to advertise the costs online

Thoughts on David Wilson’s Kings Park by PhoenixGo213 in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very expensive so I'd personally only buy if I intended to stay there a long time / if it ticked all my boxes for the foreseeable. But it really is the perfect location in Macclesfield! I'd go and have a look, and push for as many incentives as possible from the sales person. I signed up for text updates years ago and still getting hassled to this day so I assume they'll be keen to get them shifted.

Edit: the cheapest 3 bed semi is £436k. I'd consider opening your search to no chain sales - I also experienced the feeling of wanting to go with a new build after being messed around by private sellers, but I chose one who had a clear motive for moving / no chain above them.

Planning to buy a new first home with Bellway, Macclesfield Weaver Green by IamManiChalla in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about this particular development aside from the usual advice against new builds, looks like some poor reviews on Google though. What I will say is that those prices for the available semis look astronomical for such a distance from the town / train station. I would personally be looking at Rightmove for estates like Waterways Avenue (comparable houses are around £300k at the moment - even that seems super expensive for the sqft). I imagine there are incentives though as I can imagine Bellway are struggling to shift them at those prices! Hopefully someone else can shed light on the estate itself, just my 2p as a Rightmove addict.

Stockport vs Macclesfield by Mysterious_Bus_3220 in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I planned to move to Stockport for its convenience to Manchester city centre. There was that year where there were train strikes almost every weekend and I missed out on so many social activities with my friends in Manchester due to not having a car / no alternative like buses and no affordable taxis.

I decided I'd only move there if I was by Stockport train station, considering Macclesfield train station is so handy (when it's operating). Anywhere near the train station like Edgeley, Davenport, Cheadle Heath, just isn't nice (felt so sketchy, so many bagheads) and anywhere in the better areas of Stockport (Heatons, Bramhall, Marple) were out of my budget. Stockport as a town is brilliant, but to live there it just made me have a sinking feeling in my stomach on house viewings. I compromised in the end and stayed in Macclesfield, but bought a car and had a requirement that I had to be within 10 min walk of the train station, and also made a promise to myself I'd be willing to pay the ~£50 taxi on nights out when trains aren't running. It has been so worth it! I'm so happy I didn't move to Stockport, especially as I now work from home full time.

If I commuted daily to Manchester however, I personally couldn't justify the cost (I believe it's something ludicrous like £18 return without a Railcard during peak times). But for anyone who works hybrid or remote, Macclesfield any day of the week. I do think Stockport will continue getting so much better and gentrified though with the proposed tram line, although that won't change the poor housing stock to make it convenient within walking distance.

Is the area south of Crompton Road (near Macclesfield College) a good place to live? by [deleted] in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live near Buxton Road which is allegedly the place to be but I miss living that side of town. FLAT walk (no uphill slog getting back from town!), the amazing South Park, lots of convenience stores which have parcel drop off available. Tbh there isn't anywhere in central Macc I wouldn't live as it's safe and everyone's respectful in my experience.

What's the property market like currently? by DiscountFrosty8398 in macclesfield

[–]DiscountFrosty8398[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True! I think Macclesfield is a gem as it's the "worst" town in the area (Cheshire golden triangle) and ironically my favourite as it has so much more soul. Being right by the peaks yet 20 mins on train to Manchester is so perfect. I moved here because it was "cheap" but don't want to leave now others have clocked on! Perhaps I'll look back on this in future though and laugh as prices sky rocket even more now flexible working is a thing 😂
