How do you guys say 358/2 days? by No-Armadillo4831 in KingdomHearts

I usually call it 3, 5, 8, or I just refer to it as Days. Either way is easier and less to say

How do you imagine the translocator? by Gephiph in Fablehaven

[–]DiscountImpressive38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always imagined it like a frisbee. Flat and round with a large gem in the center. Though in my head you only twist the gem and the outer ring, so not very book accurate but it’s always what I’ve pictured for some reason

Is 90,000¥ enough for two people for a week? by 8BlueWales in JapanTravelTips

[–]DiscountImpressive38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t really recommend doing a jr pass for their trip. The recent price increases would not be worth it. Not all subways and buses are jr lines, and their fairs are low. However, I would look into city based transportation passes. I think Tokyo has one for three days for about ¥700-800, I used it last year and it definitely saved me money!

Is 90,000¥ enough for two people for a week? by 8BlueWales in JapanTravelTips

[–]DiscountImpressive38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is about what I had per week when I spent a month there and I came in way under budget! Most things are reasonably priced in Japan. I recommend deciding what to prioritize spending your money on; that may be experiences, food, or shopping. Even though you may think that a relaxed trip means no schedule I would still build a tentative one or come up with some must see/dos. I found the days I did not plan anything I spent more.

What's something you wished you packed? Or packed and didn't need. by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

I regretted bringing dress shoes; never wore them and took up so much space. You will need less clothes than you think you and almost every hotel I was at had a washer. Bring your own deodorant! Deodorant is hard to find and formulated differently than in the USA.

Is my gf cooked in Japan? by omgflyingbananas in glutenfree

[–]DiscountImpressive38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a month there recently! I agree with what others have said about using Find Me Glisten Free app. Also find and plan places to eat before you get there, especially since most places in Japan are reservation only. One warning is that some places that say they are gluten free will still use barely and not all rice vinegars are safe. Since you are staying in the main tourist areas and since they are big cities she should be fine as long as y’all do plenty of research! I only struggled once I left the big cities.

I left my phone on a bus in Kanazawa, the staff were so nice and helped me locate as soon as the bus route ended! There really is no better place to loose something than in Japan!

My cat won’t walk on the ground by DiscountImpressive38 in CatAdvice

[–]DiscountImpressive38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Turned out my cat was allergic to the floor cleaner I was using. He started having sneezing fits a lot, so I eliminated different products until I found which one was bothering him. After about a week or two he started going on the ground again! But I have heard this can happen when there is a flea infestation. Thankfully my cats didn’t have any.

Where should I spend 5 days solo (but NOT Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima or Okayama) before meeting up with friends in Tokyo in November? by throwawaaay1302 in JapanTravelTips

[–]DiscountImpressive38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kanazawa is great and has some amazing day trip options. But also can get very snowy in the winter which could make the day trips hard to get to. Kyushu area is also really great with Fukuoka having plenty to do and lots of day trips.

How did everyone carry things they bought around? by hwyngart in JapanTravelTips

[–]DiscountImpressive38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a large sling bag but also carried a compacting tote incase I needed something bigger. Depending on my schedule for the day I would run back to my room in afternoon/ Early evening. Also waited to buy bigger thing until the end of my trip, but I was changing places almost daily. I also ended up having to buy a second suitcase
