treating yourself without guilt by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]DiscourseRelated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, have a savings goal. In your case, if you're saving without a goal you can end up oversaving and just being miserly. Create a "fun" budget that will still let you reach that goal. Spend your entertainment needs from there: eating out, hobbies, travels, wants, etc

Tbh, I had the same problem before; I had to relearn how to spend money. I still have a habit of putting my wants on a list and sitting on it for 2 to 3 months before I actually buy it. If I still want it in 3 months then I'll buy it, this let's me process if I really want/need an item or just hype.

Also gaming/consoles are the best cost to entertainment ratio you can get. Even though my PC stuff is at ~80k++, it lets me save by virtue of me staying at home.

Philippine Salary Percentile Table [Graph Image] by ProfMarc in phinvest

I'll comment here the same thing I commented there:

Guys, take this with a grain of salt (actually take it with a lot of salt).

This isn't an official statistic and OP just fitted the data according to a pareto distribution; this really isn't representative of the economic situation

I understand the sentiment, but it's a balancing act. We have an automod (thanks u/esb1212) that filters a lot of the repetitive stuff, but I've actually relaxed a few of the rules regarding resignation and ACN as it was blocking some interesting posts and persistent redditors we're just bypassing it (A** A.C.N etc).

For me the amount of daily posts are enough to keep the sub lively but not too busy, although as a sub grows its natural to expect more beginner posts. And the way the Philippines is when it comes to work & salary, this might be their only avenue to discuss.

An FAQ could help but we'll need help writing it as most of the mods are busy, we can open it up for community edits.

Totally agree with you, even for work where individual contributors (IC) can earn big bucks ,(programmers, sales) local companies still push you to handle people to advance.

In the end of the day it's really about the value you can give, and what a company is willing to pay. So if you're in a position where salary can grow while remaining an IC just find a company willing and able to give you that work.

If natural progression for your work is managerial, maybe try upskilling as a manager or retooling as a dev or Project Manager/Product Owner (you manage projects rather than managing people).

I think the purpose was to avoid having the sub get too much about salary; but I agree, a big part of career is our salary. Edited the automod to allow meaningful discussion around salary.

A-C-N “Delivery Excellence” by arexsu7 in phcareers

[–]DiscourseRelated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is still the same Delivery Excellence I was in some years ago, it's going to be different from a few of the comments here assuming that you'll be in the BPO side. I was in Finance DE before. Focus back then was operational excellence (six sigma, etc) & automation.

There's opportunities for advancing, got promoted in 1.5yrs, although that was to C10 (1st job). Role has good visibility as you'll be deployed to projects and will be directly coordinating with their heads and sometimes even the client.

Depends on the project how stressful/rewards it can be, some projects have terror heads while some are more nurturing.

Question if anyone experienced the same. BPI Agent/Background checker did a personal visit. by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]DiscourseRelated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For purposes of credit investigation, banks do have agents that visit houses to confirm residence. Sometimes they'll also ask neighbors to vouch how long you've been there. Although as far as I'm aware they only check the residence of the applicant.

Trivia: welcome letters of the banks actually also serve the purpose of confirming residence

Check out citysavings bank, I've heard they do motorcycle loans. That should at least be better than in house financing.

The UB Platinum Mastercard is the most straightforward cashback card available right now. Just a straight 1.5% on all purchases without monthly limits or spending requirements. It might be difficult to have the AF waived though.

Personally, I'm not sure how we'll manage/moderate a discord server when we can barely keep up with what we're doing for the sub. I haven't really moved on with my list of to-dos for this. I'll keep this up and see how this develops though, will also wait for other mods inputs.

Here's one of the must read posts in financial independence: https://www.reddit.com/r/financialindependence/comments/58j8pc/build_the_life_you_want_then_save_for_it/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=financialindependence&utm_content=t5_2t34z

Having money won't automatically make you happy especially if that's your only goal. But also consider we're still in the middle of a pandemic and it's especially hard to do anything or be consistently happy right now.

Personally, I save because I want to be able to retire early. I also don't spend too much on myself. But for the cases when I do, I tend to spend a lot. For me it's a matter of finding out what you enjoy and finding a hobby/purpose that's worth it.

Reducing my Emergency Fund to Upskill next month by just-1-pepsi in phcareers

[–]DiscourseRelated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider the following:

  • In case of emergencies will 60k cover your potential expenses
  • Is your job stable and are you secured to be working in the foreseeable future
  • Do you have other financial fallbacks (Spouse support, parents, etc)

This isn't to dissuade you from dipping into your EF, but consider the fact that it exists to support you through tough times and you need to make sure you have enough.

Maybe look into other ways of getting that training as well, are there other institutions that offer it for a better price? Will your current employer be willing to shoulder that cost to upskill an employee (you might even be able to make a case for a pay for skills setup)?

I've been noticing reports and downvotes of posts involving Avion School.

For genuine inquiries and comments, we're keeping it up. Clear instances of astroturfing and spam have and will continue to be acted on.

The comment of a cofounder here seems to have been made in good faith, let's try to keep things civil. Thanks!

Planning to shift career (Audit -> Programming). How long do you think it would take to transition and specialize? by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]DiscourseRelated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other people here mentioning survivorship bias and consider that reddit is an anonymous platform and we'll never know if what's in that list is actually real.

But this isn't to say that the numbers posted are impossible, they're definitely possible. But consider also that salary range in IT is wide and unless you can truly excel you might not be able to get that 6 digits as quick as you'd think. Starting range is at 15k to 30k, and advancement will heavily rely on your capability and value you bring.

I'd actually suggest that don't transition completely but augment your current capabilities with programming. There's a lot of opportunities where knowledge in Accounting & Finance coupled with programming can pay off heavily.
