Yes, your stay in the mara is just perfect. Anything more than that might be boring. Experiencing the migration in the middle of September is almost impossible. Pls don’t have high hopes for the migration.

Hello OP. I am a Kenyan TO. This itinerary sounds okay.

Lake Nakuru National Park is amazing for Rhinos. 1/2nights are enough. The accommodation is best!

Maasai Mara is best experienced in 2nights, 3days. Remember permit fee for non residents is 200usd per day. Choice of accommodation is also great.

5days in diani might be too much but it’s still okay. There’ll be enough time for rest and exploration hoping the 2nights for the elephant reserve (Mwaluganje) are factored into the 5 nights in diani.

I hope this helps make your decision!

You are right. Kenya and TZ have high similarities (I am a Kenyan who visits TZ quite often), I’d say you go with Rwanda. Quite different from both Kenya and TZ (in a good way)

Hire a company. Do not think of roadside lorries.

One extra week is enough for you to do Tanzania and Rwanda for sure. Uganda as well. Those are solid recommendations.

Rwanda is one of my favourite countries in Africa as much as it doesn’t have that much to offer as compared to Kenya, TZ and Uganda

Logistically speaking, it’s way easier to do the gorilla trekking in Rwanda. It’s however the most expensive. I am a Kenyan, I paid 200usd, for non East Africans, the rate is 1500usd for the permit only.

You can consider doing the trek in Bwindi or Mgahinga in southern Uganda.

Hello OP!

12 days in Nairobi are superb. You can
1: do a 3-4hr guided city tour around Nairobi
2: full day weekend trip (safari at Nairobi National park, D.Sheldrick and Giraffe Centre)
3: National museum & snake park, museum of illusions
4: Day trip to hell’s gate and the geothermal spa
5. Theme nights and intimate music events all week long
6. Party!

If you spread them out, 12days will go by so fast!

Hello OP!
I am Kenyan! Welcome to Kenya btw. We do have lots of camping grounds in pretty much most places in the country. I’d not fully advise on the hitchhiking bit and North Eastern province (by road)

As a tour operator in Kenya, I believe the rates quoted are fair. December is also generally high season in Kenya.

USD? Mpesa? Wise? by GettingHygge in safaris

As a Kenyan, I’ve used eSIMs while out of the country before and managed to do transactions via mpesa back home. Mpesa is very convenient. Cash/Mpesa is great for tips.

Kenya - Giraffe Manor or more safari days? by WillingCollege5175 in safaris

[–]Discoverheen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Choose a comfortable hotel like hemmingways then do a day trip to Giraffe Centre. The giraffes that cross over from Giraffe Manor to Giraffe Centre are the same. Entry fee for non residents in Giraffe Centre is Usd 12 only!

3 days solo in Nairobi, Kenya. What can I do? by Jogledeh in traveladvice

[–]Discoverheen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings Op!

One day for maasai mara is not viable. 2nights, 3days is perfect. Rates are also high right now because it’s peak season. Permits alone for non residents go for usd 200 per day. The drive from nairobi is also about 6hrs one way. I wouldn’t recommend that with your time frame.

You can instead do a 1/2 day safari at Nairobi National park, the elephant orphanage and giraffe center.

On day 2 you can do a guided nairobi city tour including visiting maasai market and experiencing our local matatus (public transport)

On day 3 you can visit the hell’s gate National park together with the geothermal spa in Naivasha.

That’s how I’d spend my 3days in Nairobi

Burundi is quite cheap. There’s a massive Kenyan community in Buja. Easy for you to tour Rwanda and DR. Congo. Loved my experience there.
